Self care/ pampering do you have time?

This morning I have managed more than a quick shower, I have exfoliated, used a hair mask and face mask.
My serums and moisturiser have all been applied using a little electrical device that makes my skin tingle, I am covered in an oily body lotion and am about to tackle toes and fingers before I blow dry my hair.
This seems to have taken up a lot of the morning and I am not finished yet!

I would love to say I am going to build all this in to a daily routine but honestly I do not think I have the time.

Do you spend much time on self care or like me are most mornings a quick shower and some moisturiser?

eddiecat78 Mon 05-Oct-26 11:18:29

I do have the time - but I really can't be bothered!

Calendargirl Mon 05-Oct-26 11:26:28

No, never do anything like that.

I shower, wash my hair, dry it.

Just use soap and water on my face, shower gel to wash body with.

Bit of hand cream on at bedtime, and foot cream when I think about it.

Cut my own toenails when they need it, but getting very tough to do.

That’s it really.

I do whats necessary, shower shave legs if needed, hair, face moisturiser with spf daily and night time if I remember, cut toe nails, hand cream when i remember. Thats about it my daughter trims my hair so no hairdressers.

Yes, I am a believer in self care.

Some days I do have the time for "self care", other days I don't. Either way, I never bother. Like all propaganda, first the advertisers (and glossy mags and influencers and anyone else hoping to make an easy buck) make potential buyers feel convinced that they have a problem. Then it offers a miracle product which will solve said problem. It's a wonder we're still swallowing those myths whole, but as we get gradually wiser, so the advertisers (etc) get a little craftier.

Same here, I think I look ok, no need for a regime taking hours.

I don’t enjoy self care so limit it.
I spend time drying my hair as it looks awful if I don’t. I use body lotion as my skin gets so itchy. I wear a small amount of make up when I go out. Regular 6 weekly appointments with the hairdresser to sort out the grey roots. That’s more than enough for me!

When it comes to "serums and moisturiser applied using a little electrical device that makes my skin tingle "

I'm an atheist. I cut my nails with scissors and would not be seen dead in a nailbar. My only concession to self-care is having three nailbrushes, one at every sink.

I shower and wash my hair every morning.

After that, I apply body butter to my arms and legs, and Cerave to my face. If I'm going out, I wear full makeup and blow-dry my hair. Otherwise, I let my (curly) hair dry naturally.

Shower, hair wash, creams, make-up, hair, all takes an hour.

I think we should all try & make time for self care, whatever that looks like - mine's guided meditation, breathwork and journalling.
For some the ritual of pampering, facepacks etc may be a very important 'quiet time' amidst a very busy or stressful week, a much needed time to relax. So much more than just a 'treatment'
To quote a certain advert-
" Because you' worth it!"

Truly I can't be arsed with pampering. My DDs go off and have massages etc. and have in the past suggested they might book for me - but I have told them (kindly) that it's not for me.

Just getting through each day in one piece is enough for me!

I suppose it depends on what is meant by self care.

I wash and style my hair every 3 - 4 days. My hair is long and curly and hasn't seen a hairdresser for over 20 years. I cut it myself. While I am waiting for it to dry off a bit I sometimes do a facial exfoliation and apply skin creams. I also apply skin creams/serums every morning. I sometimes apply lotion after showering but not always.

I never get my nails done in salons but do oil/cream them every morning and night - takes two minutes while I am in bed and my nails and strong. Once a week I give myself a manicure - takes about 30 minutes.

I drink 2 -3 pints of water every day. If I don't I notice it in my hair and skin, and my lips gets dry.

I do pilates and/or callisthenics most days for about 30 minutes to keep my muscles strong.

I do wear make up sometimes but not always, mainly because I can't be bothered with taking it off afterwards.

Getting through each day in one piece does for me to. An awful lot of my self care time is taken up managing my various disabilities and conditions.

foxie48 Mon 05-Oct-26 13:59:29

Yes, I have a night time and a morning routine for skincare, I do regular strength and cardio exercise, have my hair coloured and cut on a regular basis and use products when I wash it myself. I put my make up on every morning after breakfast even it I am not going anywhere. Why? Because it makes me feel happy. I do it for me and no one else and I don't judge others if they choose to do things differently. Actually, most of it doesn't take up much time at all, I love my exercise classes and I'm fortunate to have the money to spend on myself. This afternoon I'm going to give myself a pedicure and dye my eyebrows.

I do a weekly blitz on a Saturday morning - double cleanse, face mask, etc probably takes about an hour. I wear make up and perfume every day (for myself) and have regular appointments for hair and nails, although my toenails are left to a Podiatrist.

MT62 Mon 05-Oct-26 14:40:18

Good for you Sago 😊
Just about manage my hair once every six weeks.
Could do with treating myself though Starting with the loose skin under my chin 😂
Don’t know if anyone else has that problem & has had it fixed?

JamesandJon33 Mon 05-Oct-26 14:57:39

Always intend to. Heaps of skin creams etc… but I often forget as I am busy.

I hear you re getting through the day.

Visgir1 Mon 05-Oct-26 15:13:49

I do... I daily moisturise all my body after a shower plus have a facial Microcurent every month, I use every day serums and face creams, after I have cleaned my face, plus a night cream. Have a Pedicure every 6 weeks, hair the same. Wear perfume every day, have eyelashes dyed as well. I do it for me.

crazyH Mon 05-Oct-26 15:48:21

Moisturise morning and night.
Pedicure, and eyebrows shaped and tinted every 6 to 8 weeks
Hair wash once every 2 or 3 days, colour once every 5 weeks ( grey hair makes me look very old). If I can keep the illusion going for a couple more years, I’ll do it and why not ?

I have been worried about the amount of chemicals we apply daily to our face and body.
I have reduced it down to shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and face moisturiser. Sometimes a lipstick
What did our mothers and grandmothers do without serums, face masks etc.
Will be watching the Panorama programme tonight

Is being an atheist relevant to self care, Butter and Jam?
