Can anyone please recommend a good film to watch. Really struggling to find one and with the football on tv is going to be rather difficult to watch at the moment. Don't like too much swearing but I realise nowadays it's difficult to watch a film without swearing in it. Just a good old story please?

One of the best films I've seen is 'Lion' a true story, very moving. At the end in the cinema people stood up and clapped.
Dev Patel stars.

Another one of his is 'Slumdog Millionaire', another great film. Both older films and worth second viewings.

Other favourites are 'Bohemian Rhapsody' the story of Queen. And 'Rocketman' about Elton John's life.

'Lion' is the most beautiful story, I totally agree with you!

I recommend “The Dig”, if you haven’t already seen it.

And it’s got Johnny Flynn in it who I love ( albeit always getting annoyed when they always have to introduce unnecessary love stories into films). On the subject of Johnny Flynn I loved the adaptation of Emma with him in.

I have quite a lot of films on my sky q box that I have recorded - i make sure that "keep" is selected so they're not deleted.
i don't like many films which are on these days so i've recorded all the hobbit and Lord of the rings films plus Indians Jones and Harry potter too.
but as I also have various other programme series recorded I don't need to watch live tv very often.
and I've found itv x or bbc iplayer etc very good for watching drama series like poirot or midsomer murders.

I think the Poster is wanting films she can watch at home whilst her husband is engrossed with the footie!

It’s called “Disclosure Day” starring Emily Blunt and Colin Firth. My friend enjoyed it - I thought it was self indulgent
Nonsense, and I adored Close Encounters, but not this one.

@MayBee70 I was going to say this, as I totally agree with you - especially bearing in mind the law in England at the time. However, the rest of the film is so good I can overlook it.

Not a film but a glorious series on Netflix. Its a remake of Upstairs Downstairs, starring Keely Haws.

If you have Prime Video I can recommend a quirky film called Cold Brook. I really enjoyed it.
On Netflix, if its still available try The Six Triple Eight or for something fun The Adam Project.
In eight episodes, The Residence, a murder mystery set in The White House.

Mick

What is it called?

It’s called Disclosure - given that it’s Spielberg, I told dh we should make an effort to see it.

Beebawbabbity Tue 16-Jun-26 15:28:17

Couldn’t find it on UK Netflix☹️

I binged a series on C5 called The Hardacres; Call My Agent (the original French version on Netflix); a golden oldie = Sabrina (with Harrison Ford).

Grammaretto Tue 16-Jun-26 15:41:49

I watched the Help recently which I enjoyed. It's over 10 yrs old now but good still.
Thanks for other recommendations too.

Greyduster Tue 16-Jun-26 16:19:54

The book it was based on is a cracker, Grammaretto.

“Julie and Julia” starring Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci is a good watch. It’s on Netflix.

I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and Darkest Hour, another Lily James film is very watchable too.

Remarkably Bright Creatures starring Sally Field is quite a gentle film

Watched Project Hail Mary (Apple TV & Amazon Prime I think).

It’s Sci Fi and really not my sort of thing but it’s intriguing and funny and we both enjoyed it.
