Whether they are banned or simply stop contributing it seems this happens reasonably often. It is a shame ,particularly when someone who has been a ‘regular’ is banned and most of us have no idea what caused it. A recent person to be banned never, as far as I am aware, transgressed . Sometimes I think someone with opposing views complains and causes a banning quite unnecessarily and we are the poorer for it. It would be very boring indeed if we all held the same views on everything.

There are some posters that always make me laugh with their sense of humour or make me think about a topic from another angle - Allira is/was one of those netters and who I will genuinely miss. I can't recall her ever posting anything to cause offence. I think GSM was before my time on GN but clearly both bans are unjustified. I hope karma reaches whoever is responsible for these travesties.

Sago Tue 26-May-26 21:27:22

I’m another Allira fan.
I would like to see her return.

Galaxy Tue 26-May-26 21:31:56

Allira may also have achieved the first ever GN thread where there is a consensus of opinion smile

SueDonim, your view is shared by so many of us. What on earth can Allira have done to warrant this ban? She’s well liked, interrsting and avoids unnecessary conflict. I believe she was deliberately targeted. It’s shameful.

Totally agree, we often disagreed and often agreed and she was prepared to change her view thoughtfully. ...and totally confused.

This is so sad. I suspected it was her as she was a frequent contributor and I realised I hadn’t seen her for a few days. I missed whatever “controversial” post she is accused of submitting but I have only ever seen informative and interesting posts from her. So she was presumably reported by someone who didn’t openly challenge whatever she posted ? Not nice!

When I first started, very tentatively, dipping into GN about two years ago, there was a very nasty post on one of the political threads that was quoted in the Guardian. I don't know if the poster is still around. I was put off by the whole tone of the thread and it was quite a long time before I dipped my toe in again.

Generally, things seem to have calmed down since then although there are still nippy little spats cropping up now and again.

Wyllow3 Tue 26-May-26 21:38:45

I suggest we all "report" our posts and give our POV.

Cossy Tue 26-May-26 21:39:07

Whilst I understand what our dear Admins are doing, what they feel is their job, working within the guidelines, but really, if enough of us state we support both GSM and Allira, surely they should/could be allowed back?

Isn’t this “our” site for our “grans”.

Please, Admin/Moderators, please reconsider? thanks

I did make my feelings known when Allira contacted me.
Reply? There wasn’t one.

Wyllow3 Tue 26-May-26 21:45:44

We are unlikely to get individual replies.

They do have meetings on difficult matters and ponder. (from one reply I once did get they don't just make individual moderator decisions unless its clear cut)

Galaxy Tue 26-May-26 21:47:34

I did get a reply when I contacted them. It was basically thanks but we can't discuss individual posters

Wyllow3 Tue 26-May-26 21:48:34

OK. They are listening.

Galaxy Tue 26-May-26 21:50:02

I am at a slight disadvantage in that I didn't see the thread. Which makes it a little tricky as I don't really know what I am defending/ complaining about.

Galaxy Tue 26-May-26 21:50:28

Not that that has ever stopped me before.

Tenko Tue 26-May-26 21:55:26

I wonder if the person who reported her is reading all these posts supporting her .
I missed the post which caused all the controversy but I hope the GNHQ reconsider .

Iam64 Tue 26-May-26 22:00:32

Yes I didn’t see or if I did, don’t recall the thread. Is it still available

merlotgran Tue 26-May-26 22:00:34

There have been quite a few threads about the pain of grief and bereavement lately and how to live with it.
I don’t know what the average age is at HQ but to dish out a life ban to any member of an online community that prides itself on support and understanding for those who are struggling shows that they’re a tin eared lot.

Maremia Tue 26-May-26 22:05:55

Was it a Chat Thread?

SueDonim Tue 26-May-26 22:10:56

I didn’t see the post/thread, either, and have no clue about it. It just seems so out of character for her to have done that.

Wyllow3 Tue 26-May-26 22:16:39

Are we sure it's a permanent ban not a suspension?

petra Tue 26-May-26 22:21:01

Maremia

Was it a Chat Thread?

No, it was on site stuff.

Maremia Tue 26-May-26 22:22:33

Thanks petra, not sure if I've been on that.

I have it from the horses mouth that it is most definitely a ban.
