Disappearing contributers

I teeter on the edge of dropping out of GN nearly every day.

You and me both because the minority spoil it for the majority.

I haven't read every post on this thread in detail but I chose the quotes because they sum up how I often feel.

I've been 'on' GN since, I think, 2009. Not always actively or regularly and I think I have changed names twice. I believe banned people sometimes simply come back from a new email address and with a new username.

I can think of people who have 'disappeared' and I remember a time when there were frequent arguments and accusations of cliqueyness. Certainly there are posters who have followers who seem to immediately rush to agree. I haven't seen any 'hate filled posts or posts which' set out to deliberately upset others' as claimed earlier on.

This is a relatively small platform with some very obvious, regular posters. I have noticed that, perhaps because probably, the age range is, I would guess, older, posters are often those who lean, to the political right or are conservative (small c) and who probably still buy newspapers as opposed to spending hours ferreting around on the Internet. I'm generalising of course.

Briefly, I suppose this thread and possibly the one about how to get rid of the 'I'm on' threads you don't want to be on anymore just sound to me like a desire to close ranks and I think some disappeared posters have been hurt by things said or have felt driven away. I've certainly noticed that mention of the Guardian or anything remotely labelled as 'leftwing' often gets a scalded cat reaction but at a moment where democracy and the freedom of our press to print truthfully is in question, surely we should react with patience and curiosity to all posters and refrain from nastiness?

I've just 'replied' to an old message from the missing poster that was in my inbox and it says 'sent'. So will the site let me message a poster they've banned and will deny access to her messages? Seems more than a little weird.

As I have posted many times when you are banned it’s instant
You are a non person. That’s why ( again) I have advised to share email addresses with your online friends.

I've solved it. The site won't let me send a new message, but will let me reply to an old one that's still in my inbox, which seems rather pointless.

That's who has been banned? That's not a name which would have occurred to me at all. I can't think why she would have been banned - I've never seen anything offensive from her.

Thank you, Aveline. I am aghast, horrified to learn who's been disappeared. I have not always agreed with Allira but there's never been any personal animosity or offensiveness and she has a lovely sense of humour.
For heaven's sake GNHQ, show some common sense and compassion. Your high handed, Stasi-like methods are only alienating other long time, rule following members. Or are you really trying to destroy GN?

Galaxy, I yearn for someone who’s very good around the house. I often complained to mr I that I did the bulk of domestic duties. After he died. I realised he was very good around the house.

Ok we failed to get GSM reinstated. I miss her, often forthright and controversial, always interesting and at heart very kind

Allira - a likable, interesting, often made me smile, I enjoyed news and politics with her because she often had a slightly different view which was expressed positively.

I m sure she was targeted. I don’t know why and I’m not given to conspiracy theories but there’s something not right about this ban

I only know because another poster kindly replied to my PM asking her. I'll not name her just in case. But she's the one to be grateful to.

Goodness me! I’ve not been here much today and am astonished to hear this news of another banning. How extraordinary, I cannot imagine what misdemeanour she could have done to warrant this.

SueDonim, your view is shared by so many of us. What on earth can Allira have done to warrant this ban? She’s well liked, interrsting and avoids unnecessary conflict. I believe she was deliberately targeted. It’s shameful.

I hope she's reading this.

I did not always agree with this GN, but know that she made frequent attempts to lighten up a Thread by offering a funny angle.
