So for example, if you get five posts deleted perhaps you are suspended, but if you’re a previously suspended it’s three posts, and for a previously banned poster it’s only one deletion and you’re banned with no appeal opportunity- or something along those lines? I’ve made the example up, but maybe Allira has fallen foul of whatever the system is, on a points basis?

I’ve reported about 4 or 5 posts in all the time I’ve been here ( over 5 years ) and a couple of those were about a poster who was a very enthusiastic Nicola Sturgeon fan, anyone remember her? ( think she was banned in the end )
It takes a lot for me to report a post. but sometimes it is necessary. ( I know that’s not a popular opinion )
I have never reported Allira I hasten to add, in fact, until this thread I’d never heard of her.

I have an exciting, cunning new theory: Allira isn't a person but an HQ staff member posing as a Gran and feigning the various ups and downs that we all have. An AI Allira. No wonder they can't reply sensibly to our pleas for clarity and reinstatement .

Funny you should say that Aveline because I thought that a certain person joined GN at the beginning of Covid. She was very friendly person, on at all hours, night and day as well as on different forums.

and this thread is on the basis that we accept those but cannot understand, in this context, the banning of one particular poster.

Scaremongering isn't the kindest way to go about it imo.

I enjoy being on GN as much as the next person, that is our right. We also have a responsibility not to pursue a poster, as Allira obviously was, with the intention of getting her banned, imo.

Yes. GN needs to be looking carefully and analytically at the reports. What preceded them in the thread, who the reporters were, and importantly the distinct similarities of speech pattern, profile information and responses, not just of the immediate reports but also of past profiles of previously banned posters who are known to have returned in other guises and have the knowledge to make multiple, seemingly unconnected posts and reports.

And search for evidence of disagreement between the banned and the reporter on n previous incarnations.

It is the failure to do this that has led to Alliras banning and will lead, after a lull, to more.

Taking time to build a credible backstory before launching revenge attack is a well known troll tactic. But there are telltales they cannot erase in their postings.

If only people would think twice before pressing that report button. I have never reported anyone as I feel posts should be left for all to see and wonder about the effect on someone when they are reported and then possibly banned.
I still think it's cowardly to report.

Some of us have clearly stated that we only ever report the very obvious bot or spam posts. That's a useful thing to report.

My thoughts too. Lots of us live alone (I was bereaved last year), and some are maybe housebound where GN is a daily lifeline. So it would be good to know what kind of transgressions would incur banishment.

It doesnt work, Grandad tried it bless him and was easily identified.

It is goady, provocative, but far more dangerous than goady

Because people with truly malicious intent could use it.

I am not sure whether I should be writing this. It may be seen as goady, provocative and deserving a ban.

There may be a way to circumvent a ban. Install a VPN (virtual private network) on the computer and create another Gransnet account using a different email and username.

The VPN gives the home computer a proxy IP address. Mumsnet even have an article recommending the use of a VPN service called Proton VPN.

Allira, if you are reading this, perhaps give it a few weeks or months until everything dies down and try again using this method and see whether it works.

GSM never got back on here despite many of us sending messages to GNHQ supporting her and her asking herself.

Sadly, it looks like Allira may suffer the same fate but I hope not.

I miss GSM's very sensible posts too.

Dickens I know there are posters on here who have a lot going on, medically speaking. If they get banned for any reason, haven't exchanged email addresses with anyone, and need to reach-out for whatever reason, then they are stuffed. If they are having a tough time, have had some awful health crisis, or even a worrying diagnosis, the support from the GN community could be very important. I'm thinking of the threads where members post their recent GP or hospital 'test' results, and are terrified of the implications. And that's not hype, I have seen posters use that precise word. There are frequently threads like that where, by the end of them, the OP returns to thank everyone and say that they are feeling calmer because of the support, and crucially - information - they've received.

Maybe it's not an exaggeration to say that peremptorily cutting someone off from their community could in some instances, be quite devastating

There's neither rhyme nor reason in Allira's banishment.As so many posters have said not once have we seen anything that should cause suspension .What is going on ?Are we not respected by the hierarchy ?I do think we should have some sort of explanation.
