First dance after your wedding

I also had "Lady" by Kenny Rogers and even though the marriage failed, it is still one of my favourite songs - though looking back, maybe I should have chosen "If you Leave Me Now" by Chicago!!!

1966 Much the same as Baubles. Church, sit down 3 course lunch, followed by speeches and then Dancing to a 3 piece band - a mixture of ballroom, Scottish and jiving. First dance with OH was a circle waltz, then I danced with the best man, then my Dad and to my eternal shame my MIL as FIL belonged to a funny sect who prohibited dancing. All the cousins from that side of the family Tut Tutted at the dancing but did get up for some of the Scottish ones, apparently it was only 'couple' dances that were forbidden.

Changed into my going away outfit, powder blue suit with navy accessories, we did Auld Lang Syne and left absolutely covered in confetti.

The DJ played Band of Gold- if he had listened to the lyrics he might have realised it was a break up song!
Prophetic though although we did last 18 years & have 2 gorgeous sons ( & still get on Ok when we meet)

No music at our home reception, that I remember.
Mum and her friends catered and an honorary auntie made the wedding cake.
This was 1961, and we will have been married 58 years this year. I was 19 and DH was 22.
We also went away to an island, the Isle of Wight, that was as near abroad as we got till much later.

But like many others we had a formal "wedding breakfast" and left for a 3 day honeymoon in a nice hotel. No dancing. Wouldn't have wanted an evening "do" even if I'd thought of it.

We got married in 1973. The wedding was at 2pm then we went to a hotel reception. By 6pm we were leaving for the airport for our honeymoon. Weddings were not all day affairs in those days. Certainly no dancing!

Having married in 1966 no first dance and no disco. Everything was very low key.

1973 - married at 2.0pm on the train to London for honeymoon 6.0pm. No dancing.

By the time the speeches were over it was a mad dash to get changed to be off on our honeymoon.
First dance was the last thing on our mind.

Can't remember. We left all that to the band/best man but it would have been some sort of waltz. After the first circle of the full floor, we split up and chose different partners and so it went on until everyone was up. Beautiful memories of the occasion (even though I can't remember the tune!)

1946. I had arranged with the registry office to get married as soon as my fience was demobbed after he had spent six months in Palestine. So it was the day after he came home to our one attic room and just our mothers were present.
Would not have bothered to get married but in those days it was not the thing to live together without doing so.

Only one Heart by Jimmy Nail, and we had a few waltzing lessons in preparation! Married in 95 celebrating our first ten years of home ownership. The dressmaker put a little loop in for me to hold up my dress elegantly. Must be due another party I think.

Isn't a first dance like the old Snowball - couple dance for a few minutes then break up to invite next couple in and so on? The one I'm not so keen on is the US father/daughter dance after which the bridegroom takes over. Or anything overcooked.

No dance for us, either. Simply "a bit of a do" at our house before we set off on a (package holiday) one-week honeymoon. Still happy together after 36 years.

Ours was a registry office wedding as well, no party afterwards. Had to get back to feed DD2 who was four months old and wouldn’t take a bottle. DD1 was 2.

‘Our song’ was also Lady by Kenny Rogers. We loved each other very much and had 35 happy years together before he died four years ago, aged 69. I never regretted not having a white wedding.

We were married in 1972,and like many others,we left after the reception to go on honeymoon,no music,,etc,but we had a lovely meal.... ,that marriage failed after 20yrs,we grew apart,but for the last 13yrs i have been married to a most wonderful
hubby,,we had a registry office ceremony,then a reception/party,and the first dance was Rod Stewart, ...Have i told you lately that I love you ,

I don't think "first dance" was a thing back in '94 when we got married, but ours would have been an eightsome reel or some such, along with all the other guests, as our reception was a Ceilidh.

Quiet wedding, meal after, no music but DD had At Last every time I hear it I am taken back to a wonderful celebration nearly 4 years ago
