Have you got your heating on yet?

With our thermostat set at 19C in the mornings (20C in the afternoons) we rarely see the heating turn on at this time of year.

I had to wait until there was calm water so that I could get up on top of my boat to sweep the flue. All clean now so I might buy some wood today and have a cosy evening watching Strictly.

Oh definitely on whenever we need it. I don't see the point of holding out if I am cold. It's set twice a day at the moment, but doesn't always come on if the temperature hasn't dropped. I over-rode it yesterday during the day as it was cold and rainy.

Yes, coal fire in the evening and a couple of hours of heating on if it gets chilly. Must be mild this year though, I usually start in September!

Started the week before last putting the heating on for an hour some mornings, evenings we have been using the wood burner for a while now.

The British dilemma, every year we have this obsession of telling others when the right time is to put on the heating. Seems everyone wants to be the last one to do it. When I'm cold, even if its June, I put the heating on for a while. There are no winners in this very British contest, just feeling cold and miserable. My motto, If you're chilly - click it on!

Wood burner lit in the evening over the last few days and the slow cooker came out of the cupboard this morning - first casserole of the season being prepared for tomorrow.

If I detect a chill in the air or its been a day of non stop rain I turn on my heating to switch off when it reaches the temp I have set it to and know I am comfortable with.
Small amounts can be money saving than saying to yourself 'oh dear its only September shouldn't be turning on the heating yet' then going full blast later on.
Also switching on my electric blanket when needs must.

Not everybody is on mains gas in the UK and the bottled sort doesn’t come cheap.

We have a really nice cast iron Victorian fireplace, with coal effect gas fire that is not part of the CH system so that goes on sometimes when the evening is chilly and we are sitting down; otherwise tearing about keeps you quite warm enough! The heating did go on one evening last week for an hour or so when the wind was howling around and the house seemed damp and chilly. I have an elderly neighbour who has had her heating on at full blast for weeks, and even in the heatwave she had radiators practically at boiling point to dry her washing. Her living room was like Singapore.

No. Wear woolly cardigan during the day and in the evening change into a pair of pj's, bed socks and warm dressing gown.
Take hot water bottle to bed.

Just for the bathroom radiator as the towels aren’t drying. I try to wait until November and so fingers crossed it doesn’t get too cold before then!

I should have said (but didn't) that everyone who lives in civilised areas, has mains gas.

No heating on yet but the weather is getting colder. Leaves falling off the tree's for Autumn. Putting a jumper on and blanket over my thin quilt.

We have mains gas in our (Home Counties) village . Another village, under 3 miles away does not.

I switch mine on only when I need it, even in the coldest winter. It is in the kitchen under my bedroom and would keep me awake switching on and off otherwise. It's been on a couple of times in the evening lately, but only for an hour or so. Here's hoping for a short, mild winter!

I prefer to be cool, so haven't used my heating yet.
Its ideal for me when there is a chill in the air. I love it!

Unfortunately it is in regular use now.
OH refuses to wear a coat and scarf, coat and gloves indoors.

Our heating system is thermostatically controlled and has being coming on intermittently for the last 10 days. It hasn't come on at all for most of this week, but did this morning.

We only ever have it on for a couple of hours morning and evening, we find that is quite sufficient. If the temperature falls to 5 degrees or lower, we will light the wood burner during the day and the air circulates around the downstairs.

I actually do not like a high ambient temperature. I prefer to wear more clothes and be in a cooler house.

Not yet although the timer is set but the temperature has not fallen to the point where it should start. The boiler has been serviced so it is ready to go and we did a manual overide on one morning when it did feel nippy but it soon cut out again. This year is unusual.

Thanks sharon59 'the British dilemma' made me laugh. We have our heating set at 18. If it comes on and we are not cold, we turn it off. If we're cold and it doesn't come on, we turn it on.
Yes, my first reaction is to start wearing thicker knitwear or more layers, but I refuse to be cold.
We had visitors from Cornwall this week, wrapped in thick layers where I'm wearing a T-shirt and a thin cardi. They said they were cold - so we turned the heating up for them.

I could go the entire winter without the heating. (as we did for the first 25 year of our marriage. ) Just a fire on in the living room is adequate for me. I too hate a warm bedroom and try to leave the window open all the year round. However my husband is an avid runner and with a very low resting heart rate is always bloody cold! I sit here in a t shirt and shorts in the winter and hes wrapped up in joggers, a sweatshirt and a fleece dressing gown! But in answer to the OP question. No, not yet! But I suspect it won't be long! 19 - 20 degrees MAX!
