Have decided I have become neurotic

Bought my scooter, still haven’t ventured out on it. When I first decided to buy one I wanted a canopy too so I could venture out and with a canopy wouldn’t feel so exposed to all around me.

The day the scooter was delivered I posted of the joy of getting out of the bungalow, no problem not having a canopy.

Prepared my recovery programme step by step, realized I would have to continue working on it come colder/wetter weather so ordered a canopy. It was delivered and fitted yesterday,

Am now looking for a knife ! If I am on the scooter and the canopy won’t open I will be trapped ?.

It was the fault of the men who fitted it, one said ‘some find these claustrophobic at first ‘ . ?

Neurotic ? Yes ?

Annie I have just seen your latest post and didn’t want to read and run. The last while has been so tough for you. I am sure others will come with practical advice. I send you hugs and flowers and hope a better day is coming soon.

Hi Annie, please be kinder to yourself, you are a lovely, kind, intelligent woman, who has had the most horrid time.Grief, is what you are experiencing, terrible grief, by coming on the site everyday you are showing how strong and committed you are, and with Gods help your strength will improve as will your health.x

It sounds like you have had a very bad time recently Anniebach. Be patient with and kind to yourself.

I wouldn't be much help with Fred, sorry, Annie - I speak as the person who decided, the first time I was left in charge of DGD1, to take her for a nice walk in the sunshine. However, I tried and failed to open up the pushchair. It was some posh new-fangled contraption.
In my defence DH had a problem with it too (and he's an engineer grin).

Does the canopy stay on there permanently and fold back when you don't need it?
Are there any instructions online for it?
It's so windy out there today that you'd get blown over, so perhaps you could do a bit of Fred research today instead and make some plans to venture out when the weather is calmer.

flowers and look after yourself, one step at a time

I think it needs a new name Annie it doesn’t like Fred, it wants a Welsh name, then it will behave itself. smile

Jalima1108 Tue 18-Sept-18 11:22:25

Yes!
smile
Selwyn Scooter?

or perhaps a female name?

Anniebach Tue 18-Sept-18 11:32:36

Fred isn’t the problem, I am. I love Fred . Other people have a garden bench in their gardens , I have Fred.

Have to get myself together, wonder if I should stop trying to get back to the person I was and accept what I have become. Only problem , I don’t like what I have become!

Willow500 Tue 18-Sept-18 13:15:59

Annie you are neither stupid nor a dithering fool - you are and have been unwell and been through the most horrendous experience anyone could imagine and everyone reacts in different ways to such circumstances. You will conquer Fred and get out on him either with or without that canopy. Does the part which unzips fold back - or can it be rolled back a bit and hold it in place with some bulldog clips? That may help with the panic feeling once you're inside it - it sounds like it's a difficult thing to remove so a compromise might be a better solution.

One step at a time annie. Start off as the person you are now and gradually move forward. Despite what you think, you have shown great courage and I'm sure you can do this. Getting started is the most difficult bit. (Which reminds me have you got Fred charged up again?) Can you get on and off the scooter ok? Is it possible to leave the flap open and not zipped (sorry I have no idea what it looks like). Just wondered if you could go a few feet with the canopy unzipped to see how you would feel x

Jalima1108 Tue 18-Sept-18 14:37:43

Only problem , I don’t like what I have become!

I think that is a step forward actually. Recognising that you want to change.
So that is progress and I hope you can keep progressing.

annep Tue 18-Sept-18 14:40:18

Jalima just what I thought.

Jalima1108 Tue 18-Sept-18 14:47:04

I may call our new baby squirrel Selwyn. He's been busy digging up tasty titbits from all over the lawn which his parents must have buried.

Selwyn Squirrel has a ring to it.

This is something my DGC sing; I will link it, not copy and paste so that you can look if you wish Anniebach, or not.

I haven't heard all the words to this before now. One to keep going back to. Very uplifting and encouraging.

Anniebach Tue 18-Sept-18 16:49:46

You are just wonderful x

1. Right bulldog clips. Big ones .

2. Move forward - I can never move back because she isn’t
there.

3. Start off as I am now and move, if you keep doing what your doing you keep getting what you get.

4. Fred aint gonna move untill I get the extension lead !
Amazon now.

5. Selwyn the squirrel yes, Selwyn the scooter ? No , Selwyn
Gave me driving lessons when I was 17, shouted at me
Because I drove into the hedge , checking my lippy in
The mirror, it’s what you do when your 17 isn’t it? It was
His car though.

6. Step by step and I will go out into the world.

7. Aunt Jinny - “ if the Lord doesn’t come he sends”
Yes he sent me Grans x

Annie, just catching up with you and Fred. Jalima's song will go round in your head, it's addictive. My DH and I used to sing together this when delivering our Church magazine.
Fred is patiently waiting for his driver to gird their loins and take him for an adventure. We are all egging you on and will be so glad to hear about your almost virgin ride. We know you will do it while the weather is still on your side.
Good luck.

Anniebach Tue 18-Sept-18 20:29:08

Thank you Auntyflo x

Doodle Wed 19-Sept-18 19:48:26

Have you tried Fred yet annie? Just a little trip of a few feet is a start ?

Anniebach Wed 19-Sept-18 20:13:15

Not yet Doodle, ordered the extension lead to charge him up and the bull dog clips to hold canopy open, they shoild be here Friday or Saturday.

I phoned the firm I bought Fred and the canopy from, asked for instruction sheet for fitting the canopy , son in law who isn’t will have an idea how to take canopy off should I decide I realy can't get use to it, so I am preparing for ‘the great escape’ from the bungalow ?,

have written out my step by step recovery programme , first goal is to reach the road of the Cul de Sac, second goal is to drive around the Cul de Sac , third goal is to leave the Cul de Sac , fourth goal is to check the length of the road which leads through a housing estate, see how far I can go without getting too anxious.

Thank you x

Doodle Wed 19-Sept-18 21:19:46

Fingers and everything crossed annie. I think the bulldog clips are a good idea. It doesn't matter how many times you go round the cul-de-sac, the important thing is getting out.
Just don't go getting yourself a speeding ticket ?

Anniebach Wed 19-Sept-18 22:20:42

mmmmm, wonder if I could get Fred souped up !

Thank you Doodle x.

Bellanonna Sun 23-Sept-18 18:10:07

So - what’s the latest Annie?

lemongrove Sun 23-Sept-18 21:12:25

Is this mobility scooter one that is designed for road use or pavement use Annie?
Driving anything, when you haven’t for a while is daunting, make your Close your only goal until you are fully confident about using it.Nothing ventured, nothing gained mon ami!?

Anniebach Sun 23-Sept-18 21:51:13

Think pavement but road if no pavement lemon, it’s class 2,
Doesn’t fold up to fit in a car

Bellanonna, not going well, it has rained for days, today was a nice , dry day, I failed , no excuses , looked at Fred, came back in and closed the front door . So wished I had someone to come with me the first time. I am a wimp . I do want to get out there with Fred, but !

Katek Sun 23-Sept-18 23:46:11

annie......a different perspective on Fred and all the other Freds out there. The village pantomime group is staging Cinderella this year and we’re busy converting our own Fred into Cinderella’s magic coach. It’s going to look quite magnificent with organza drapes and fairy lights. I shall post a picture once we’re finished.....don’t think of Annie and Fred, you too can be the beautiful Princess Crystal going to the ball! Good luck with your first outing.?
