I would bet a pound to a penny this was nothing to do with a broken heart the poor wife had barely found out her husband had died before she went too far too much of a coincidence
Oh yes, I agree Bluebelle - I was merely trying to explain that there is apparently a condition nicknamed that and I have known a couple of cases where one partner has died very shortly after another.
I'm not saying that this was the case here at all.

I hope that there is a properly conducted pm in this country and an inquest to find out the reasons why this double tragedy occurred.

I would imagine hotel health and safety rules are applicable in most countries There will however always be the cheap and cheerful hidden away somewhere that escape the nets.I can't imagine that particular hotel where this tragedy took place would not be advised when a check was to be made A 'spot check' clearly would be just that with no pre notification and could close them down if found to have a health and safety issue.

Elderly both in their 60's ? A no hoper for myself and others then way past this age.

Not criticising the Egyptian health authorities, but the post mortems did ought to be carried out by British forensic people, then nothing can be lost in translation.

Something very odd there, I think,especially the reason given for the wife's death. Died of a broken heart, does this really happen that quickly? Only in romantic literature I think and as annep says, postmortems definitely needed.

I'm not sure that Thomas Cook would use cheap and cheerful hotels in Egypt.
Even upmarket hotels can have problems with hygiene - and, as Gabriella says, spot checks are better than pre-arranged H&S visits.

It is very unlikely they died of Legionnaires disease. My husband has had it and the incubation period is about 10 days.

Yes, it's a bacterial infection and surely wouldn't cause sudden death as in these two cases.

It is being suggested that it may have been a fault in air conditioning...odd smell in the room etc. Though I would think the windows might have been open ...

Don’t know about Egypt but not all hotel windows do open.

Have read in the news the daughter said there was a strange smell in the room the night before so perfume was sprayed to mask it but it didn’t work. When someone went into the room after the deaths they also smelt it,sorry,can’t remember now who it was.
Poor daughter though,hard losing one at a time but couldn’t have coped with two
