Today I met some angels

I am usually on top of things but today was a bad day.

I was due to meet other GN's in Staines and had got it into my mind that we were meeting in Costa.I got to the station and asked for advice only to be told that there were three but none was in the High Street where we had agreed to meet. Undaunted, I visited two of them and asked various people who were wearing pink and black with glasses (HAZBEEN's description of herself) if they had come to a GN meet up. Stupidly I had forgotten to take anyone's phone number. One of those dressed in pink and black and looking much younger than a GN member was sitting with her friends and they took pity on me after I had wandered up and down for twenty minutes. They said they would keep an eye open and what did my friend look like. I said I had never seen her before. They asked me what her name was so I had to explain about GN and said I did not know her real name only her user name which I did not reveal. They asked me for my name which I told them.

Another twenty minutes passed and when I returned they called me by name and said that I was in the wrong place. They had looked it up on GN and found that I should have been at café Nero. They told me where it was and I set off. Twenty minutes later they appeared to check I had met up with the others. What kind young people there are in Staines.

I call them angels (messengers) as without them I would have missed out on the meet up altogether.blush
Has anyone else met any angels recently ?

HAZBEEN Thu 28-Jun-18 18:29:18

It was so good to meet you Greenfinch. Yes I can vouch for the angels as they came into Cafe Nero to check you had met your "friends". Its so good that younger people were prepared to help an older (sorry!) person. A lot is said about the younger generation but these ones showed that "one size doesnt fit all"!

kittylester Thu 28-Jun-18 18:51:25

That is lovely! Young people get a bad press but often are really lovely!

Auntieflo Thu 28-Jun-18 18:58:16

Greenfinch, how lovely to have had such an encounter. They truly were your guardian angels today. ? I do hope that you enjoyed your meetup, albeit slightly delayed, and on a scorching day too. Thanks for sharing.

Greenfinch that was lovely to read ??

Mamissimo Thu 28-Jun-18 19:43:18

Very pleased to have met you Greenfinch and hope we can do it again.

Yiayia4 Thu 28-Jun-18 19:56:55

Sorry I missed it today not feeling great hope to come next time.

phoenix Thu 28-Jun-18 20:01:33

I used to live in Staines, before moving to Devon, and my best friend still lives there!

Shame I didn't think to ask her if I could come and stay for a couple of nights, but I have trouble even making the Devon meets lately!

Grannyknot Thu 28-Jun-18 20:05:19

Lovely story Greenfinch - and I'm so pleased it all worked out. Purpledaff had invited me to the meetup today, but unfortunately I couldn't make it. Maybe next time!

lemongrove Thu 28-Jun-18 20:36:16

They were so helpful Greenfinch that sort of thing usually happens to me ( wrong place, or right place but wrong time)
grin glad you got there in the end.Hope we can meet again
Sometime this year.

Deedaa Thu 28-Jun-18 20:43:39

It would have been lovely to have you there phoenix although we may have been making enough noise as it was grin

Iam64 Thu 28-Jun-18 21:24:18

What a happy day

Izabella Thu 28-Jun-18 21:27:04

Lovely

Purpledaffodil Thu 28-Jun-18 22:06:19

What a shame Phoenix would love to meet you in real life! St Aines to Devon sounds a radical move.

Purpledaffodil Thu 28-Jun-18 22:10:42

I should add I arrived second (in the right place) and realised I couldn’t possibly ask likely aged ladies if they were Hasbeen?Luckily Hazbeen herself was the first person I asked citing Gransnet, rather than her user name!

HAZBEEN Fri 29-Jun-18 05:05:15

If I had been more organised I would have put a sign on the table! I asked a lady if she was Greenfinch when I first arrived as she was wearing exactly what Greenfinch had described she would wear! Talk about strange looks especially when I said I was meeting a group of people who I didnt know!
It was great to meet up with you all and I am already looking forward to next time.
By the way check out the photo purpledaffodil put on the Staines on Thames thread, arent we a lovely bunch?!

I had a similar experience the second GN meet I went to. I knew where I ought to be but couldn’t work out where the restaurant was. I asked a young man in his late teens, but he said he didn’t know it, so we both walked off in opposite directions. A few minutes later I heard someone shouting and he had come haring back to find me and said “excuse me, I’ve found your restaurant. Would you like me to show you where it is?” Without him I may have been wandering round all day!

JaneD3 Fri 29-Jun-18 07:46:38

East Midlands are meeting in July. DH asks if the restaurant knows what it is letting itself in for, particularly if the waiters are young and male! Well really!?

Panache Fri 29-Jun-18 07:54:09

What a beautiful heart uplifting little story to read first thing on a morning that is not going exceptionally well for me.
I know only too well what you mean Greenfinch as along the way I have had the odd pleasure of meeting a few.
They do not come about all that often but when they do you feel so special and blessed,it has in fact helped change my life when I was probably at my lowest point. So I understand all too well how you feel
Whilst may I add you must be one yourself for taking the time and trouble to come on here and relate the story...............it would have been far easier to simply be pleased you met with your GN new friends and let the amazing kindness of other young people go unnoticed.
I firmly believe that when you rub shoulders with an Angel,it can change your life, their kindnesses have touched your heart..............and now it has touched ours.
Thank you for sharing, all of a sudden today has a new meaning.

Greenfinch Fri 29-Jun-18 08:04:53

Greyduater those were the exact words the young lady said to me: "Would you like me to show you where it is?"

Auntieflo I hope you will be able to make it to the Reading met up.

Mamissimo it was good to meet you too. Have you worked out those acronyms yet?

phoenix it would have been lovely to see you. Perhaps next time? I always enjoy/admire your posts.

*Grannyknot *a pity you could not make it.I was sad to hear that Gertie's had closed. Are you still in touch with alche…..(sorry can't spell it)?

lemongrove I feel the Ashmolean calling .August?

Deedaa Glad your homeward journey was better than your outward one.

Purpledaffodil thanks for doing the photo even though I look 'orrible. Not your fault.grin

Greenfinch Fri 29-Jun-18 08:12:50

Thank you so much for your kind words Panache written while I was still labouring away at mine. I must say yesterday left me feeling good even though I was really annoyed with myself for getting it wrong in the first place.

I always enjoy your posts as I know you are not well and yet you are so kind to and supportive of others. I do hold you in my thoughts and wish you well. Have a restful day.

HAZBEEN Fri 29-Jun-18 08:29:56

Greenfinch I have replied to your PM

Greenfinch Fri 29-Jun-18 08:37:38

Thanks HAZBEEN

Your story resonates with me. Twice when going to local GN meetings in London I have gone to the wrong place. I had no excuse as I had met the group twice before. I had thought about coming to Staines to meet you, but, by coincidence, we were invited to lunch with my son in Staines on the same day.

I hope you will post about the next meeting, and give very specific instructions. I don’t know Staines as I live in East London but would love to meet more GNetters. If any of you ever come up to London you would be welcome to meet us. We are very friendly.
