Not only on Gransnet either I'm afraid. I'm having real trouble recalling names of people in real life, including some who mean the world to me. There are some GN names that I remember, but as so many names are new and others have name-changed I've completely lost track.

grannyactivist I spent several minutes recently trying to recall my own date of birth! Day & month, no problem. But the year? I couldn't for the life of me remember how old I actually was! Have you ever been admitted to hospital, and had to do the ‘dementia test?’ Dils grandmother was admitted into hospital several months ago and it was one of the first things they did. I sometimes genuinely fear that I would fail!

grannyactivist - have no worries, it was once explained to me that as we get older we have more wisdom to remember so some things get pushed out to make room. I think it was Einstein who was said not to know his times table as he didn't see the point of having to remember something he could look up!

With regard to getting bloodstains out of the cellar floor - has anyone come up with a foolproof way - asking for a friend!

DMIL passed the test when she was admitted to hospital after a fall. Which was a wee bit surprising, as she announced that the handsome young doctor was her grandson, dressed up and playing a trick on her. Now DS is of course young and handsome, but the only medical training he ever had was for his first aid badge in the Cubs.

I’m fairly new. Was never a MN member - too busy at that stage of my life. What I value on GN is the perspective on life of other women of my age - the similar work or family problems we’ve been through, the long view of politics and so on. I’m prob too naive to recognise spoof threads (on what sorts of things? Why school uniforms?).
As for deliberate winding up, silly and pointless if it happens. GN members were 36 one day; MN members will be 96 one day and someone else will be mocking them....

I'm pretty new. Some kind people have already given me good advice and I love the chats.

Gransnet is a good place to be. Sometimes unkind remarks get into posts and GNHQ step in. After all we don't know other posters' situations and some people are more secure than others.

I've been on MN for years but I came here because I wanted advice from people nearer to my age and I like it here.

I haven't noticed any obviously spoof threads - I must be very trusting or naive ?
Why would someone waste their time doing that? ?

I hope I'm not the only one who sometimes reads a post and decides to google the subject. I go to google, forget what I'm supposed to be googling and have to go back and look again

Thanks BlueBelle - now that you mention it, I did see the foreign girlfriend one which was written in a strange style and I remember being curious about the age of the writer. ?

I quite like the daft school holiday posts BlueBelle, they're always so predictable in their format and elicit some really witty replies from regular posters that make me laugh out loud!

Yes they can be very comical but it worries me when new posters or those not familiar get sucked in and try so hard to solve the problem though

The more the better otherwise it gets very cliquey.

I’m new here, and my grandsons are a month old today. ? I’m sure from time to time I’ll raise a topic that may have already been done to death, but I’m not reading every thread just to check. I’ll mainly be lurking in chat anyway.

I'm new here too! My granddaughter is just over a year old. She's my first and may end up being my only. I adore her. I was recommended this site by a Facebook friend. So far it hasn't disappointed!

It does make it more difficult for those of us who suffer from little brain syndrome to remember who everyone is.
Most of ‘our’ names mean something to the poster but are just gobbledygook to the rest of us. If I can’t pronounce it I can’t remember it! ?

Yes, I welcome new GNs too! Just want to point out that you don't have to be a gran. I'm not and I know there are lots of other non grans who just enjoy the site.

You're not alone there, Merlotgran. I do this a lot!
I'm a very very old GN and loads of different names have come and gone, and lots of new ones lately in particular.
I just carry on regardless.

There could be a whole lot of new Gransnetters when we're allowed to have more than one username
