Just read a new thread on 'Relationships' and it just seemed strange seeing SO MANY posts with names I've never see before! hmm ..me being bit paranoid??
It's lovely to have new people here, welcome. I too am not a gran .....yet. I live in hope.
I am fairly new, Joined about two months ago.
MN did not exist when my children were young and I have never looked at it.
I have sometimes thought GN is a bit cliquey, so am glad to see a welcome to newcomers.
I have four grandchildren aged between 10 and 16, who live not too far away, and a step grandchild who is three but lives a long way away.
Me too seacliff !!
There could be a whole lot of new Gransnetters when we're allowed to have more than one username
What's this all about, Jalima?
(I was always the mum at the school gate who depended on the rest to tell me what was going on
)
Welcome to new GN's I'm another one that has to scroll back to get names right.
I was always the mum at the school gate who depended on the rest to tell me what was going on )
Me too MaizieD - and I miss my young neighbour who always knew the latest gossip news!
I'm usually 'out of the loop' too
However, I did notice a recent thread about being allowed to choose another user name if we wanted to discuss something sensitive on GN.
I'll try to find it
Well I must be very naive! I prefer to assume very post is genuine unless proved otherwise. I think it must upset genuine posters if they are not believed. And if they are laughing at me who cares? I dont know them and they don't know me!
I dont like it when threads deteriorate into personal abuse or people take offence where none was intended. Surely we can have different opinions without falling out?sorry if I sound self righteous Im quite xapable of upsetting someone unintentially with a thoughtless or insensirive comment . But I do try to apologise! I agree that it's good to have some new members and I hope they enjoy the discussions. .
^ prefer to assume very post is genuine unless proved otherwise.^
Well, I'm not sure about the school uniforms or onesies threads!
I was going to query the cost of school uniforms but am thinking twice about it.
Thanks for the link Jalima
I dont think Ive seen the ones you are referring to.
Welcome all newcomers! I'm no longer a "Newbie".
Was welcomed with open arms 2 whole months ago and now graduated to a venerable "Oldie". At least that's what it feels like.
I have a question for our resident spoof-spotters. I don't know how you do it, but have you also spotted any Grandads amongst our newcomers?
As we all know, there is a dearth of same and I'm afraid that we are in danger of becoming an endangered species.
We need an injection of fresh blood.
When I enquired earlier, I was told to look in Grandad's Shed, but that was fake news.
There was only one, who was glad to see me, but as he said, we must be using the wrong soap.
One other stuck his head in the door, said he was looking to see what was in it for him; not a very promising prospect; hasn't been back.
I'm now afraid the Shed will suffer an attack of woodworm and have to be demolished.
So where are all the DHs and fellow widowers?
Are you not allowed out or active in other forums?
It's hard to tell who's behind certain nicknames, but I suspect not.
Oh well; we can only live in hope.

Anyone could be a Grandad Rufus - that's the thing, we never know!
How would we recognise a grandad if he had a neutral name and just posted without mentioning it? Are there any secret clues?
I think so - just read the posts!
I was wondering how many posters are grandads. I could name maybe half a dozen, but unless they made a point of telling us so, or left clues like "My wife says . . " it is not always obvious.
Perhaps Rufus2 has overlooked a lot of Grandads? If he chatted with posters as though they were just people, without having to know whether they were male or female, or feeling he had to either flirt or fight, he would find gransnet less frustrating.

Thank you for your posts, Jalima and Elegran.
However, shouldn't that be "fight or flirt" to maintain the sense of your post? I'd hate to be caught flirting with a male Grandad in the Shed! That's not what it's for, is it? [Only Joking
]
No! I never get frustrated, but do I "chat- up" a poster by asking if they are M or F? No thanks! I think I'd get some funny answers!
IMO the onus is on Grandads to step forward, place a post in the Shed and then we can take it from there.
"Mantalk" and all that stuff!

There are a few men around Rufus. Someone called Michael opens Gransnet cafe every day. Then there's Grumppa and Wobbly bits and at least two others whose name I forget. Just keep your eyes open.
Thanks for that Pollyperkins, but unfortunately not much help.
One of those was the Grandad who stuck his head inside the Shed to see " what was in it for him"
Not much of a prospect; glad to say he's not been back.
I keep my eyes open; don't worry about that.
Your other suggestion (non-cafe) reminds me of a rather suggestive type who was apparently not very endearing to our Grannies.
Or are my wires crossed again?
Michael would be welcome, especially bearing coffee (flat white; no sugar thanks!) My favourite morning kick-starter.
But as I said before, IMO the onus should be for Grandads to identify themselves, even if only to say "no thanks".

Well, there is Grandad43 but his natural habitat is not the shed but on the Jacob Rees Mogg thread.See if you can engage him in manly talk Rufus.
One of those was the Grandad who stuck his head inside the Shed to see " what was in it for him"
ask not what the Shed can do for you but what you can do for the Shed etc.
See if you can engage him in manly talk Rufus.
Yes, you could encourage him into the Shed
ask not what the Shed can do for you but what you can do for the Shed etc
Jalima: tried that! Asked him what were his interests in life, but not even the courtesy of a reply. Poor!
What about "Abandon Hope all Ye who Enter Here!"
Being a democratic gentleman I'll talk to my (only) Shed companion first and recommend that we abandon it and stick up a "For Sale" notice. Don't think we'll get much for it though.
We already have Plan B active.
Lemongrove; Pardon me; but as Delboy might say, "What's that got to do with the price of Fish?"
A quick look at that J.R.M. thread (never heard of him down here) tells me that he's a politician of sorts and we all know how we hate being patronised.
So; No thanks.
Oh well! I give up.

It was just a thought Rufus as you seemed so keen on meeting other Grandads.
Although....I have a sneaking feeling you enjoy chatting to Grandmas even more.

Thanks for that lemongrove. I've cheered up already.
Of course I do!
Problem is other Grandads don't seem at all keen on meeting me or the other Shed resident.
On the other hand Grandmas have always been delightful to chat with like yourself, although a couple have boxed me round the ears from time to time when they imagined I was patronising them. A taboo word apparently. Now I have to scan my posts to see if I am likely to be patronising anyone. [
Anyway I can't complain. With so many Chicks to chat with and so few Roosters around I feel like cock of the roost, if you see what I mean.
And please don't tell me I'm patronising again.
Take care
Ta-Ra and Good Health
I wpuld be very very careful abouf calling us chicks Rufus! ☺
