What irritates you about other Gransnetters?

Perhaps I should duck before I even start!

I think there are two things which make me wish people didn't do them.

1 When someone asks for really simple advice and people don't read what others have said before saying exactly the same. Yes, I understand on long threads that one cannot read it all and there are posters who say they haven't read it all and hope they are not repeating, they are not irritating.
2 People who post to say they don't know anything about the subject, why post at all then? No, I don't mean those who just want to show sympathy or that they care, of course that is appreciated. It feels like they just have to comment for the sake of commenting.

Perhaps I'm not in a very tolerant mood today. I admit I'm feeling emotional so maybe that is why. Or maybe I'm just plain grumpy!

and am more selective about which posts I read!

MawBroon Wed 04-Apr-18 13:47:55

I suppose I get irritated when somebody gets the wrong end of the stick and process to beat me about the head with it. hmm

MawBroon Wed 04-Apr-18 13:54:03

If they never post, how do you know they joined?
Or are they like Schrödinger’s cat? (now there’s a novel username)

Why don’t you just name me jalima?
In my defence, as I never enter competitions I never read who has won anything, so that I why I was unaware of non- posting members. Seemed a not unreasonable question at the time.
I have already apologised for attributing the comment to lemon grove -surely adequately?
What more does anybody want?
Sackcloth and ashes?

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:05:10

Oh dear MawBroon I didn't mean to upset you shock and I didn't think there was anything in my post which would have done.

I was just trying to explain about names that we don't recognise from threads being the ones who often seem to win the competitions.

Jalima1108 Wed 04-Apr-18 14:07:05

Oh dear,I wasn't pointing the finger at anyone in particular when I said some were in a timewarp .
Oh dear, join me in the shitmire, as DH says, always in there, only the depth varies.

I must have two left feet today.

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 14:15:43

Well I agree with you about the 'Off Switch', Jalima so don't give up hope. grin grin

The extra grin is to make sure nobody thinks I'm being serious.

felice Wed 04-Apr-18 14:17:19

The fact that no matter what I seem to post, no one responds and it closes the thread.
Ok I live in Brussels so is it all the Brexiteers who don't like me ????¨sad

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 14:20:33

Discussing TV programmes in a light hearted way is one of the threads I am likely to join in with so just because I think the plot is full of holes, the child character is a brat and the leading man a wimp does NOT mean I have to switch off.

Criticising television characters/actors/locations does nobody any harm whatsoever.

MawBroon Wed 04-Apr-18 14:22:43

I realise that, but can’t see why I have come in for so much opprobrium , and yes, I’ll name names if necessary so why you took it as implied criticism or an insult Greenfinch is still a mystery to me.
Subsequent oblique comments about being jumped on or not apologising struck me as too close to home when I had assumed the blush emoji made my intention clear enough.
Perhaps it’s the timing, perhaps I am feeling sensitive, but this bread has turned nasty (for me)
I should have steered well clear bu who would have guessed GN could be such a mine field.

MawBroon Wed 04-Apr-18 14:23:49

“Bread” ??
“Thread”

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 14:27:14

Sorry, Ma I wasn't directing my post at you.

merlotgran Wed 04-Apr-18 14:28:25

Ma???

Maw grin

Maggiemaybe Wed 04-Apr-18 15:18:28

I think I’ve lost the plot. I have no idea now who’s offended or why. felice, your notion that you’re being ignored because you live in Brussels made me laugh - if you’re being serious I apologise, but what the heck....? confused

Synonymous Wed 04-Apr-18 15:20:58

Maw I think you need cupcake brew flowers and everybody needs to please - - b-r-e-a-t-h-e - - smile

(I can't do stress and love you all blush)

Nonnie Wed 04-Apr-18 15:30:08

I don't know who has offended you Maw hope it wasn't me. When I started this thread I intended it to be lighthearted. I'm quite upset than anyone should have said or done anything on it to make someone upset.

Dgrann777 Wed 04-Apr-18 15:40:26

Person who replied in a rude dismissive way....this happened to me on my first post and made a painful situation worse. Won’t be asking for advice again in a hurry.

cavewoman Wed 04-Apr-18 15:44:45

I don't like it when people, whose posts I enjoy, suddenly disappear.
Are they ill? In hospital? Fed up with GN? Changed names?
Wish they could let us know if possible (stop me worrying!)

Thinking in particular of Imperfect who was an avid contributor.

Marydoll Wed 04-Apr-18 15:46:20

For all those who have upset on this thread, I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Please don't stop posting, there are lots of nice people on here. flowers

Oldwoman70 Wed 04-Apr-18 15:54:25

I have to say it annoys me when people just post a link to a blog or whatever. I like to read their opinions in their words, not the opinion of someone else who they happen to agree with. Often someone will post several links and to be honest I don't bother reading them and I will leave that thread.

I think the politics threads in particular can get very, shall we say, cutting, because people have very strong views, I just wish there could just be calm debate.

I am another who has the super power of either closing a thread or whose posts are invisible grin

Greyduster Wed 04-Apr-18 16:04:55

There are a lot of us about, Oldwoman grin.

Baggs Wed 04-Apr-18 16:36:52

Hypersensitivity can be irritating, making it all about you when it isn't.

Otherwise, having read this thread right through, there's not much I seem to find irritating about other gransnetters. The not much part of that sentence is important. Things on the not much shelf (figure of speech) are best kept to myself as probably being too pointed.

In general, I have found shrugs and hey hoes useful.

lemongrove Wed 04-Apr-18 17:44:08

Maw and Greenfinch no need for anyone to feel upset it was obviously a misunderstanding.
I’m not upset either, but Shrodingers cat may be feeling a bit put out.smile?

Anniebach Wed 04-Apr-18 17:57:31

links to blogs ,

whitewave Wed 04-Apr-18 18:05:33

Nothing bothers me that much really. It isn’t real life so honestly GN can be taken or left. I twitter away on it but could easily just as well not bother.

Chewbacca Wed 04-Apr-18 18:28:09

Like Oldwoman70 I too dislike the often dodgy links, sometimes accompanied with a post that just says "this is interesting". I'd rather that any links were supported by an opinion or opening to a discussion, but it feels, to me any rate, as though something's being slapped on the table with instructions to "read that". hmm
