What irritates you about other Gransnetters?

Perhaps I should duck before I even start!

I think there are two things which make me wish people didn't do them.

1 When someone asks for really simple advice and people don't read what others have said before saying exactly the same. Yes, I understand on long threads that one cannot read it all and there are posters who say they haven't read it all and hope they are not repeating, they are not irritating.
2 People who post to say they don't know anything about the subject, why post at all then? No, I don't mean those who just want to show sympathy or that they care, of course that is appreciated. It feels like they just have to comment for the sake of commenting.

Perhaps I'm not in a very tolerant mood today. I admit I'm feeling emotional so maybe that is why. Or maybe I'm just plain grumpy!

Jane10 Tue 03-Apr-18 13:19:26

Ooh! I sometimes post on a topic I don't know about because I feel very sorry for the poster and want her to know that her post has been read and not ignored. It's just an attempt to recognise someone's concern.
Sorry to annoy you Nonnie.
Popsicle probably shouldn't have responded!!

Jane10 Tue 03-Apr-18 13:20:42

Popsicle?! I've never knowingly typed that word. Stupid phone thinking I'd say that rather than probably!

Nonnie Tue 03-Apr-18 13:24:37

Oh Jane, I think posting to show you care is fine it is only posting to say you have posted which irritates.

Grannyknot Tue 03-Apr-18 13:27:27

The list is long ... grin Joking!

I think you've hit the nail on the head by your comment about it depending on the mood you're in - sometimes I'll hoot with laughter at something will annoy the hell out of me on another day.

So it has nothing to do with the Gransnetters, and everything to do with me. smile

it irritates me that a fair amount of GNetters appear to have come from Victorian times and not moved into the 21st century at all.Sometimes I think I live on a different planet from them ,maybe their part of the UK is stuck in a time warp .

sodapop Tue 03-Apr-18 15:06:35

People's posts which are very long and complicated without paragraphs.
Other posters who don't read the the original message then ask questions or criticise something which has already been covered.
Using acronyms
Apart from that everything is great. ?

Situpstraight Tue 03-Apr-18 15:11:00

When the OP asks for advice and then spend the next few days defending her or his position, why ask for advice if you think you are right?
GNers having a pop at each other, because they have a different POV. We each give advice or sympathise according to our own views or experiences, it’s up to the OP to read or ignore any advice, why snipe at each other in the process?

annodomini Tue 03-Apr-18 15:14:17

Having gone through the thread about smart TVs, I can now assert that the contributors who irritate me are the helpless women who can't fathom the technology or indeed follow the instructions and depend on a mere man to interpret them. As paddyann says, there are some people stuck in a time warp and, by the way, I am no chicken!

Grandma70s Tue 03-Apr-18 15:33:59

I’m amazed by the number of people on here who rely on men, too. Whatever is going to happen if their partner dies or for some other reason can’t do things for them? I’m sure the same applies to helpless men who can’t cook or do the washing.

With reference to paddyann’s earlier post:
We are very different ages in this site. Some are fifty-ish or younger, but some (like me) were already pensioners by the beginning of the 21st century! I have always felt when you were a teenager makes a big difference to outlook. I was a teenager in the 1950s, very different from being one in the ‘60s or later. I don’t think there are many actual Victorins, though!

ninathenana Tue 03-Apr-18 15:36:19

When a poster says virtually the same thing I've said previously and gets recognition for it.
Petty and childish, I know. It only irritates me for a moment or two though.

BlueBelle Tue 03-Apr-18 15:49:40

Nina that’s my grrr moment too
I ve thought something through gone over in my head how to word it without causing offence get it all down it’s ignored them a few posts later someone says the same thing and it gets applauded Yes it’s childish but hey ho and no I don’t go into a decline but I do fell grrrr ish for a few moments
Acronyms my pet hate and I try never to use them
The wonderful ideas that arrive about two pages after the problem has been solved ( please read the thread or at least skim through it)

Agus Tue 03-Apr-18 15:57:44

When a poster writes about a faux pas she made identical to one I made way back and passes it off as exactly one she has recently made. Nit picking, moi?

MissAdventure Tue 03-Apr-18 15:59:40

People who are determined that a subject isn't allowed to be anything other than an argument, despite everything pointing to the fact that its light hearted.

sparkly1000 Tue 03-Apr-18 16:04:27

I'm with Situpstraight with this. Posters who are just trying to claim affirmation that their response to their situation was right and justifiable.
Refreshingly there was a post last week where the OP acknowledged that a response to her SIL had been a little hasty and an apology was forthcoming.
Family dynamics can be a hotbed of conflict and blur the original perceived situation. Input from GNs to me is a calming influence and helps posters to see the perspectives from all sides.

Nonnie Tue 03-Apr-18 16:08:18

I feel a lot better now that you all seem to find more to be grrr (sorry, it was too good not to borrow) about than me! Now I shall boast about what a lovely, patient, tolerant person I am and you can all tell me how you hate the horrible GNs with self satisfied posts! grin

Situpstraight Tue 03-Apr-18 16:43:52

Missadventure, I’m with you on that one! Just happened to me, I should have sprinkled some lol’s around, then the OP would realise I was being (or trying and failing ) to be lighthearted.

PamelaJ1 Tue 03-Apr-18 16:52:40

I a and Bluebelle I thought that only happened to me, so glad I’m in good company.
Please notice I mentioned you both!
It also irritates me when some posters try and turn everything into an argument about Brexit. I try to avoid those very cross discussions .

Luckygirl Tue 03-Apr-18 16:59:38

It would help me enormously if people writing a long post were to use paragraphs - as someone above has said - I am just getting that in, so as not to cause annoyance! grin

NanKate Tue 03-Apr-18 17:17:47

Those who are very PC who won't listen to the views of others, that don't conform to their way of thinking,

Bathsheba Tue 03-Apr-18 17:20:59

I agree - paragraphs would help enormously on long posts. As would the odd full stop, lol! I am amazed at people who just write a great long screed, with no punctuation whatsoever, and no paragraphs. How they expect anyone to be able to follow it I'll never know. It makes me feel out of breath grin

MawBroon Tue 03-Apr-18 17:21:42

Well of course PamelaJ none of this thread would be necessary if we had all voted Remain
Oops, was it something I said?
gringrin

farview Tue 03-Apr-18 17:24:38

Well really it just shows that we gransnetters are all different ages, think, act, are different, come from all sorts of backgrounds e.g education, money, opinions are different, due to lots of reasons and we all need to tolerate each other, that's what friends do smile

ninathenana Tue 03-Apr-18 17:31:47

PamelaJ1
I think that was mean't to say nina ?
Thanks for the good intentions smilesmile

ninathenana Tue 03-Apr-18 17:36:12

Apologies to the pedants for the rogue apostrophe.
