Quality Street shock

.......and they've all shrunk.......and the purple one (my personal favourite with the hazelnut in liquid caramel.....and the chocolate is insipid........and the PLASTIC 'tin' seemed half empty. Lindt 'seashells' for me too especially the seahorses!!

What upsets me is the gradual disappearance of Coffee Creme from every brand of chocolate box. It has always been my favorite.

I splashed out on the tin, because I've always loved the designs. But who is going to eat the pesky chocolates?

Apart from the shrinking tins, the quality and content of both Roses and Quality Street have plummeted and I just don'y buy them any more. Roses are not even the same shape as they were and the chocolate tastes nasty.

I am rather stingy so I so I try to combine taste and economy. I buy Lindt bars, Fruit and Nut bars (under protest as the DH likes it and make my own Florentines which is a faff but they are beyond lovely. Ferrero Roche are still good for now.

In the New Year I am going to have a go at making my own cholcolate from scratch if it can be done in a kitchen.

Just thinking how most things that are said to be bad for us have shrunk.....whilst some of us (yours truly) have gotten a little larger! Merry Christmas gransnetters, hope all your hocolates are delicious whatever they are ?

I normally like QS but we opened the box last night and they were horrible all tasting the same. I thought they were off.

Hundreds of Yorkshire jobs rely on Quality Street, so please don't boycott it. They were developed in Halifax in the 1930s and are still made there. When the wind's in the right direction, you're enveloped in that chocolate smell when you're waiting for your train at Halifax station. Heaven!

They don't taste any different to me these days, though Cadbury's does. The green triangles have always been my favourite, and certainly haven't gone - in fact, you can buy boxes with just them in now, just in case your DH gets there first!

Apparently, hazelnut whirls are in Roses.

The chocolate in Quality Street and Roses is awful now. Greasy, tasteless and claggy. Yuk!

the chocolate is crap because they've changed to the american taste, rumour has it that sales have plummeted so they are changing back. Aldi's . or is it Lidl's Moser & Roth are much nicer and a decent price

I have vague memories of collecting the wrappers when I was at secondary school, late '40s.
We competed to see who had the best collection.

I think you can buy a pack of green triangles on their own and also, I believe, a very large green triangle like a bar of chocolate. Anyone else seen those?

I'm with you IngeJones - really sad the all the coffee creams have vanished. I have bought a bag of Thornton's to try (not impressed by the cappuccino flavoured ones as they don't have enough flavour, so hoping these are better!).

... And now that the chocolate is Cadbury's it is horrid. I don't buy Quality Street any more. Such a shame because we always had a tin of it at Christmas.

It was only yesterday that I was educating my daughter about Nestle. I used the same words as you: terrible company

Maggimaybe you really can’t expect people to support a brand that sells crap in pretty wrappers. The chocolates are full of additives and cheap ingredients, for one lots of manufacturers now use cheap soy instead of cocoa butter in chocolate. I’ll be putting my money in brands with a little more respect for the bottom line in future. Quality street have probably only survived this long on tradition and when that’s gone, it’s gone.

We won a box of Quality Street in a raffle last week and I just opened it to cheer a miserable afternoon. Fudged around for my favourite purple and it does seem to be smaller. Perhaps my eye has grown.

If you can get them Caleys are nice. Opened in Norwich after the chocolate factory was closed down and the management bought them out. Still using the old proper recipe.

Sounds as if I am not alone in boycotting Nestle after all. Thanks Petra and Ruth
