I have found recently that i dont enjoy going out in the evening very much now.If i have been out during the morning or afternoon i enjoy my evenigs at home with the tv remote, gransnet and facebook. I am off out to play in a bowls match this evening and really am not looking forward to it. I am fine playing during the afternoon but i really value my evenings at home. Is this a sign of getting old?? It's not just because the dark evenings are here i started to feel this way during the summer. Anyone else feel this way.

I've found its easier to go out in rhe evening if we eat out before. I think I'm kidding myself really.

I've got like this in recent years - I occasionally book things and then when it comes to it I wish I wasn't going especially at night. Far rather sit in here and play solitaire on my iPad in front of the tv!

If we go out at night I can't wait to get home. grin

I do that too Willow. I sometimes agree to go somewhere in an evening and, at the time that I agree to it, I really do want to go. But on the actual day, I just dread it and rack my brains trying to get out of it. blush

I’m still out a couple of evenings for meetings/rehearsals and have a run of weekend activities until end November, Xmas Fayre etc. This culminates in 7 straight nights out for panto then a day to clear up. Day’s rest then off to Edinburgh for Xmas meetup! (Forgive me if my head is in the soup ladies!) I also have to factor in a visit south to see FIL and one north to see DS and family otherwise I won’t see littlies until Xmas. January is a lost month for me as I recover from my excesses and hunker down with box sets and Xmas chocs. Am I mad? Very likely, but wouldn’t have it any other way

Before going out somewhere, I usually think to myself "I wish I hadn't arranged that meal out/bought those tickets" but when I get there I'm usually glad I went.

I'm like JackyB but being glad I went seems to be a less frequent experience these days - I'm glad it's not just me!

When I was young I used to feel sorry for old people who just stayed in - even at weekends shock. How boring their lives must be, I would think, how sad that they've got nowhere to go, nothing to do in the evenings. I never for one moment thought I'd ever reach a time when it was actually my choice to stay in, dressed in my slobs, feet up, reading, sewing, watching TV. But I can't think of any better way to spend the evening nowadays. The last time I went out for the evening was to a craft class in June, run by a local fabric shop. And I was home by 10.00 - before most youngsters' evenings have even begun grin

Where we live there are often village do's in the evenings - usually some music, dancing and a catered meal.
I'd love to go to them, but they don't get going until about 9-10pm and go on until the early hours of the next day. Eating about midnight.
I don't know how they do it.

I have just driven DGS to the village as he has a weekend job at our local pub. The lights from the rush hour traffic coming the other way on the return journey was not pleasant, neither was trying to turn right into our farm entrance with nobody prepared to give way.

I'm glad I only have to do it once a fortnight when his mum is working late.

Fingers crossed he will pass his driving test soon.

Fennel I wish I lived in your village! That would suit me down to the ground especially if no driving is involved!

Reading these posts makes me realise that (apart from College/Uni) I was never able to go out much due to lack of cash or being a single parent with no support (no free child care). Maybe that is why I desperately want to get out of the house now. Added to that I do a lot of DGC childcare, including several overnights a week and school runs, clubs, sports etc. (I am free child care!)

I missed the exciting early years that some of you seem to have had. That could explain my flightiness!

Grandma 2213. I would like the village events too. I love to go out . DP tells people that I would go to the opening of an envelope! He used to like a night out but he is very boring now and just wants to watch TV with a bottle of wine ! I just go without him now .

Since becoming a widow two and a half years ago, I don't care for going out in the evenings either.

I am invited to a very close friend's next week for drinks to celebrate her DH's birthday. I'm already fretting about it but think I will take a cab so I won't have to worry about parking/driving in the dark/having a glass or two. However, the hardest part is going alone. I miss DH so much.

Willow500 Sun 12-Nov-17 07:24:04

Grandma2213 we too never went out much on a night - we were married at 17 with a baby and no money while all our friends were clubbing - I'm not sure if it was the fact we'd never done it but we never really thought about it at the time. We didn't even have a tv to start with - the one we were given blew up. I think back to my parents in their 40's/50's who had a wonderful social life - out dancing, partying and throwing dinner parties but when they got to their mid 60's that all stopped for them too.

Downsized take a cab - it's one less thing to worry about. I can't drive at night now so would do the same. I'm sure it will be hard going on your own but hopefully there will be others there you know which might help a bit.

Another one here, I hate getting changed to go out if I am changing clothes pjs win hands down, my book calls me, my OH often has late shifts at work, if I have the car for the day I have to pick him up using un lit country roads and the dazzle of oncoming headlights are awful, if I need to party 10am is the best time to catch me,prefer my fun in the day....afternoon assignations allowedwinkgrin
