Is Facebook missing me?

This links back to a fairly recent thread when we shared what was 'in' and 'out' for us in recent times. I noticed that many people said Facebook' was 'out' for them and this has been the case for me for a little while now.

Over the past 6 months, I have posted less and less - very rarely initiated posts anyway, rather I just commented on others, and not at all for several weeks now - I just got bored with it. The only reason I now go on it is if someone has sent me a message as I have not signed up to receiving these on my phone. But I am receiving daily 'prompt' FB messages along the lines of ' We are missing you ...' and 'A lot has happened ..'

I am loathe to completely close my account because there are some people that I do keep in contact with on FB, albeit very sporadically, but my interest has definitely waned.

I do have a couple of close friends / family members who seem bemused and somehow ' hurt' that I have elected not to use FB any more - as if it is a personal slight, which is ridiculous to my mind, but there is a definite sense of FB 'reality' as opposed to actual reality and I just can't be doing with it any longer. Anyone else feel the same?

I love FB. I can keep up with far flung family members and friends and occasionally ask for support. I hate to say it but I find that people are much less critical on there than they are on here, probably because I know them all personally on FB and here people are anonymous!

I use FB a lot, though I rarely post, just respond to others. I like seeing what friends and family are doing and seeing photos. I'm on several local groups so keep up with local happenings and interest/hobby groups as well as groups for my OU studies. I don't think you have to be involved in gossip but it links with so much else.

Never used Facebook, never wanted to. Was once invited but refused, whereupon I was blanked by someone I had been corresponding with on forums - disappointing.

Recently was irritated to find that the local Labour party only seems to have a Facebook contact!

I worry about the damage it does e.g. bullying and showing off BUT I have few friends and family listed and use it to communicate and share photos with very close people some of whom I can't see often as they live in other countries and or they are very elderly. It's lovely for that.

I have a rare condition and my youngest grandchild has another. The FB groups for sufferers have been a lifeline. GPs can rarely help with rare diseases and in the groups we learn from each other.
I also enjoy our neighbourhood groups. We get early warnings of road closures, scammers in the area, burglars about, planning applications and so on and it's invaluable. We can buy and sell on there too.
I'm not on my daughter-in-law's FB but one of my daughters sends me any pics she posts of the children. So though much of the FB stuff is irritating/disturbing, I wouldn't want to lose it.

I use mine mainly to keep in touch with family and friends, I have family in Spain and it helps me keep in touch with them. I do belong to a few groups i.e places I lived in growing up, genealogy, the group for the breed of cat I own, crochet, that's about it.

I love Facebook, I keep in touch with friends and family on a casual basis. I also use facebook messenger to chat to people privately, including a GN friend who lives abroad and a cousin who lives in NZ. We use messenger video calls too, much better than Skype!

I must say that I've seen more nastiness on GN than on Fbook.

I have FB to keep in touch with friends & family. DD & I use messenger frequently as phoning her is difficult DGS1 is 7 & DGS2 is almost 5 months. We do phone sometimes & I see them frequently.

I don't post loads but am on local groups so I get to know what's happening in & around Town.

My settings are quite secure, I do review them frequently.

I'm not on Twitter or Snapchat or Whasapp?????? & it will stay that way.

Fully agree with comment about Fb pages replacing websites. Amounts to excluding people, which can't be the intention. Don't understand why they do it.

I love FB, it keeps me in touch with family and friends everywhere, especially in the UK. I feel updated with things when I visit the UK.
Cant stand some citations people write, someone I know starts every morning with "hello sunbeams everywhere" I think a lot of people may not feel like sunbeams.

I've never used Facebook and never will. Seems to me that a lot of nastiness can stem from it. If used properly, I'm sure it has its use, but I've managed without it so far.

I am so proud to be able to say that I am not, and never have been, on Facebook. I feel it is washing one’s dirty linen in public and is another thing which detracts from human to human communication. Okay, it’s useful for organisations like the police, as they can track down people who are claiming disability benefits for, let’s say, a bad back and, again as an example, jumping into swimming pools on foreign holidays that they can afford and we can’t. I also think it is to blame for the modern times ‘keeping up with the Joneses’, than many young people seem to be playing up to.

Enough said.
