Things that over 50's aren't expected to do, have, think, or want?

I just inspired myself in another thread, by thinking that some folk view ladies of a certain age as 'past it' and only interested in homely things..
Over 50s ladies shouldn't..
(Over to you, ladies)

This has reminded me of jenny josephs 'when i am old i will wear purple' poem. It is brilliant. I especially like the part where she says that she will learn to spit. !

This made me laugh so much......having been in the teaching profession it was a rite of passage to get shown new offspring of my class siblings. I always remembered the wise words of a worldly headmistress who advised, upon such occasions, to say..........now, THAT'S what I call a baby!.....saved a lot of time wondering what to say...!?

DH and I were part owners of a mainly men-owned business and one day visited and was expected to act the "little woman". Don't think they'd washed their mugs for weeks and I marched in and told them in no uncertain terms that they were a lot of effing w******! Their faces said it all - waiting for the earth to open up and swallow them whole and clearly never expecting me to know those words, let alone use them! And when working went with a group of mostly very young co-workers to a Beautiful South gig. There was a strong presence of pot in the box and DH and I indulged with some of the joints. A helpful lass kindly pointed out "You do know that this isn't tobacco?" She was quite taken aback when I gently explained that I was smoking "this" before she was born and furthermore as a 60s child I really enjoyed a bit of acid from time to time! Surprising and shocking people can be quite entertaining and can shake them out of their preconcieved notions!

Sorry, meant to add, all of which I do.

We recently visited amsterdam and for a bit of a joke bought some cannabis biscuits and ditto tea bags (!). Waited til we got hime before trying them. Just in case, but Nada! However it was worth the inflated price when we told the children, their shock and horror was priceless.

Misadventure. Has to be those amongst us who have nothing better to do in their own life. Many lives begin at fifty and looking back I was at my peak at that age.wink

Skinny dip

Payback time.

Ride on motorbikes, go to rock gigs, say what they really think

Gangang Sun 27-Aug-17 10:55:13

Short skirts or dresses that expose your knees - not a good look for the over 50s.

trisher Sun 27-Aug-17 11:02:37

Oh come on if you're only 50 you can do ANYTHING! I can vaguely remember some of the things I did. Now when you are 70 that's different!

Nelliemaggs Sun 27-Aug-17 11:05:56

Apparently I shouldn't say I fancy the parcel delivery man. Just because I'm old enough to be his grandmother which is no doubt how he sees me. Doesn't stop me fancying him though.

Love this thread and am guilty of lots of things I "shouldn't do" on here! Keep it up ladies...

Can I just add - "enjoy a happy, regular sex life with your DH"?? We do it more than a lot of my younger colleagues!!

Tell ladies that a little spanking is a better lube than most creams prescribed by your GP after/during menopause?

OMG and so much more... such an entertaining thread!!

norose4 Sun 27-Aug-17 11:19:29

Shouldn't be pigeonholed, and be as free as the wind, obviously only after housework, child care, elderly care, part time job, counselling, covering up the grey hairs , chin wax ( where do those hairs sprout from!) squeezing into size smaller than real size , etc etc ???????

Which sides do you wipe down with an antibacterial spray MissAdventure. How about getting the over 70's in this thread too, I may walk with a stick, but the dishy ( well no so bad) chap who fancies me may well get his bum felt!
