Things that over 50's aren't expected to do, have, think, or want?

I just inspired myself in another thread, by thinking that some folk view ladies of a certain age as 'past it' and only interested in homely things..
Over 50s ladies shouldn't..
(Over to you, ladies)

At nearly 68 I sunbathe nude, skinny dip and make love in the pool. Wonder why we get a lot of gliders and small planes overhead.

I got drunk at a friend's sixtieth last month. Hugged a few male friends who I hadn't seen for 40 years. My (younger) sister who was with me has not stopped banging on about my "bad behaviour" .. it was once in a blue moon! .. I normally watch Foyles's War on Saturday night .. drinking a cup of tea. Last time I go anywhere with her!!!

Decided to become an art student the month before my 53rd birthday. Can't wait to dye my hair purple!

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Aug-17 13:40:05

Should never share with their adult daughter what they would like to do to Rufus Sewell or Jeremy Paxman.
Sorry Teetime you can have Jeremy Paxman but Rufus Sewell will be too worn out by the time I let him go - he's mine, I tell you, mine!!

We aren't supposed to tell it like it is. Being blunt and frank isn't on.

I recently had a Whatsapp (are we allowed to use it?) chat with my children after a family gathering at my house.

That evening, perhaps unwisely, I berated my children for their slightly stand-offish behaviour. They were washed out by Saturday's events, it transpired, so weren't very sociable, even though we'd made lots of effort to bring the family together for a big meal we'd cooked.

I told them I was fed up by their lack of effort and was asked why I was attacking them! Was I was drunk they asked!

So, we cannot be critical it would seem. Jollying things along is our role. We must stay schtumm and wallpaper over the cracks for the sake of family harmony.

Huh! confused

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Aug-17 13:43:20

Is it ok to watch the porn videos
Maybe yggdrasil, as long as you keep knitting and tut a lot.

yggdrasil and FarNorth rofl

Help, can't get up off the floor!

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Aug-17 13:47:16

I've jus realised that this is an over 50s thread not an Over 70s thread

over 50s - just babes in arms

MissAdventure Sun 27-Aug-17 13:53:25

Oh I hadn't seen the bit about knitting and tutting! How hilarious. Reminds me of a friend whose partner put on a 'blue film'.
My friend was disgusted. The star of the film had green walls and a red sofa!

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Aug-17 13:56:29

Still can't get up off the floor.
Please send Rufus Sewell to rescue me

MissAdventure Sun 27-Aug-17 14:09:20

I'm afraid there is only his stand-in available. Mr Paxman..

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Aug-17 14:15:48

I will go on a nice river trip with him instead then.

If he can get me up off the floor

sluttygran Sun 27-Aug-17 14:23:47

I have different dietary preferences and different political views from my DC. They attribute these facts to my encroaching senility, whereas I know that I have a lively and enquiring mind!

Sheilasue Sun 27-Aug-17 15:11:35

Well I must be boring then, visiting gallery's, afternoon tea, theatre .
Must admit behind my sunglasses loving the younger smart man in his shorts and tanned legs. Lovely bum

MissAdventure Sun 27-Aug-17 15:15:04

Well as long as its behind your sunglasses, it doesn't count..

When I visit MIL in her nursing home each week it is quite a sobering experience but last time one of the old dears got fed up with the nurse telling her something so she shouted, "Bollocks!" out loud which brightened things up no end. No-one dared tell her off!

adaunas Sun 27-Aug-17 19:05:51

Say "Could you phone me-I'm not really suitable for FaceTime at the moment!" Did that to my SIL this am. His face, before he shut down, was a picture. My daughter promptly texted with, "We'll phone later".

lizzypopbottle Sun 27-Aug-17 19:11:22

Shouldn't wear skinny jeans. (I do.)
Shouldn't express opinions. (I do.)
Shouldn't advise about baby/childcare unless wearing nurse's uniform or sporting a stethoscope round the neck! I've learned to obey this one! It's not worth the hassle.
Shouldn't do karate. My mother-in-law used to ask me every time I saw her, 'Are you still doing karate, Liz?'
Should be invisible. (I strive not to be.)

BBbevan Sun 27-Aug-17 20:45:50

I wear skinny jeans or jeggings and I am 73 so there !!

Venus Sun 27-Aug-17 23:23:53

They should never:

Wear bikinis
Not wear underwear
Give high fives
Go back to education
Wish for one night with a much younger handsome guy who really knows what buttons to push!

DameJudyClench Mon 28-Aug-17 00:31:27
