We aren't supposed to tell it like it is. Being blunt and frank isn't on.
I recently had a Whatsapp (are we allowed to use it?) chat with my children after a family gathering at my house.
That evening, perhaps unwisely, I berated my children for their slightly stand-offish behaviour. They were washed out by Saturday's events, it transpired, so weren't very sociable, even though we'd made lots of effort to bring the family together for a big meal we'd cooked.
I told them I was fed up by their lack of effort and was asked why I was attacking them! Was I was drunk they asked!
So, we cannot be critical it would seem. Jollying things along is our role. We must stay schtumm and wallpaper over the cracks for the sake of family harmony.
Huh!
