The town where I live is enough to tell you how people vote, the ongoing joke is "if it is a monkey and wearing a red rosette they will vote for it"

So it seems that rightwingers are so devoid of any sense of humour that they regard the word "joke" only as an insult.

Most of us who are not rightwingers understand that a joke is supposed to be funny. I don't call Theresa May and her party a joke because they are not one bit funny - and I enjoy a joke as much as the next liberal/leftie.

Perhaps we should have a thread devoted to jokes - funny ones, not gratuitous insults. We will all need a lot of light relief if the worst happens and the Tories are re-elected.

Perhaps not a characteristic but I suppose they could be commonly known as floating voters/middle/centre of politics.

But how do you know if some of the Silent Majority have been on benefits or not, have been sick and had to leave a career before retirement, have had a third child or fourth? They don't think 'I'm All Right Jack' but do have plenty of common sense, are compassionate to those truly in need, can think for themselves but are not vociferous?

In other words, silent but thinking and not just of themselves.

As a confirmed leftie I do like a casual style of dress-long skirts, linen trousers, long tops so maybe a bit hippie. But I can do smart when needed.

I am (mostly!) part of the Silent Majority but you know nothing about me and how my life has been up to now.

I just found the response to your post about the Silent Majority very odd indeed! Assuming that In other words they only think of themselves is quite strange; they are not a homogenuous group, they could in fact be anyone at all in any sphere of life, spending their lives thinking of other people or not as they case may be, helping other people - or not, opening their eyes to all aspects of life - but not shouting about it - just getting on with LIFE!

Are there really people who think carefully about others and vote, not for who they want to vote for but vote for what would benefit others most? If there are, I comend you. Surely we vote for what affects our personal experiences and what is important to our family and how policies will affect us and those we love.

Ok I vote Tory and always have. Am I rich, no. Privately educated, no. Come from a well to do family, no. My father was a coal miner and my mother a shop worker. Our home was rented, not owned. When younger, I voted following my parents tradition. Later in life I voted following the policies that sounded good to me.

The Silent Majority:
In other words they only think of themselves was posted by paddyann who says she is in favour of Scottish Independence and has stated that on GN. Some may say that Scottish Nationalists are not thinking of the good of the majority in the UK and are quite forceful in their arguments. However, the Silent Majority did win that referendum.
Other posters have stated that they vote the way they do because of the impact on their family members - a good reason, one would think, for voting a certain way.

So I cannot see why the Silent Majority who are getting on with their lives are deemed to be thinking only of themselves when the poster has no possible idea of how this Silent Majority will vote and why.

Shouldn't a socialist care less?
Shouldn't you care that the Blairs are making lots of money buying houses in the north west that other people who live there want to buy, rather than having to rent from them all the time?
