Wet leaves and old gals don't go together

I agree that we all have to accept that accidents sometimes happen and are nobody's fault, but when a hazzard has or should have been brought to the Council's attention we have a right to compensation. A few years ago I tripped on an uneven pavement in my road and badly damaged my elbow, resulting in a couple of operations, physio and almost a year of problems. I sued the Council, using one of the companies who advertise on line and, despite the Council trying to deny all liability, they eventually gave in before going to court. The compensation hardly made up for what I had gone through but was welcome and confirmed my belief that the Council was at fault.

Bluebell sorry to hear about the osteoporosis, a fall was how I found out I had got it, so glad nothing got broken

Oh heck, poor you. Keep an eye on that finger though, and get it checked out at a minor injuries clinic if it doesn't stop hurting. I left a sore hand for seven days after a fall last year and it turned out I'd broken a bone. It only needed a hand support for a few weeks, but I was told it could have been more serious if I'd ignored it any longer.

Oh dear - hope you're on the mend now. I fell over on Christmas day and it took weeks for the black eye and other bruises to fade - made me quite wary in my own kitchen now! Anyone who knows Lincoln will know of the steep stairs between shops leading from the river to the town. It's always covered in pigeon droppings and I was going up there one morning last year thinking what a mess if I fell over in it - and of course I then tripped and fell up them! Thankfully no one was behind me - quickly picked myself up and carried on after checking my clothes for the dreaded poo!

We have a large Scots Pine in our front garden (with a TPO) and it sheds copious amounts of needles onto the sloping path outside making it very slippy in dry weather when people don't expect it. I sweep the pavement but now I've been reminded that I haven't seen a road sweeper for months. I must check. Thanks folks.

(I carry a hike stick nowadays if I'm heading over rough ground. The fear of falling isn't so much about the landing bump as I'm well padded, it's more the indignity of having to crawl to the nearest likely support to heave myself back upright!)

Oh dear, I do feel for you, I know how it feels. I went for a lovely country walk two weeks ago and ended up in A & E with a broken wrist!!! I'm pleased that you are feeling better, take care.

Jackb and Stillaliveandkicking I can assure you it is perfectly possible to recall flying through the air during a fall.

Recently I was looking at an item in a shop when somebody rudely pushed in front of me. I stepped back forgetting there was a flight of 5 steps behind me. I can clearly remember flying backwards and wondering what harm I was going to come to and the difference between the safety of flight and the pain of landing. Luckily no permanent damage (maybe).

I do occasionally fall over due to not picking my feet up and I am always aware in in that split second before landing of how much damage I may sustain.

Maybe some of us have brains that work in a different way.

I was knocked over by a reversing car in a hotel car park in January.My fear as I fell was not so much what damage had I done as how was I going to get up.Fortunately the female driver and another lady hauled me up.

It takes less than wet leaves to make me end up down there, lol

Im glad I don't recall it mam. I remember falling but I don't do the "cartoon" thing and actually get it in slow motion
