I've been a bit concerned about this recently. Our village pavements haven't been swept at all last autumn/spring season. In some places under big trees the leaves are thick and would be slippery if there was any rain! There was a time when councils were worried about being sued but in the time of budget cuts that goes by the board.

Thanks for flowers .... this was on council property but I guess it's just one of those things, they can't really be sweeping it, only by hand as it's a sloping path through a park I don't think I could have been more careful I was walking quite slowly as I had ten minutes time to spare but thats life I m glad I m in one piece for sure

Bluebelle, all my sympathy, I did something similar about 18 months ago.It was agony for months.

A young lady was busy tieing her greyhound up to come and help me but I was up before she's got him secured My bag even stayed on my shoulder haha funny now but yes I bet I lll be stiff tomorrow

grannypiperI fell of my bike on Monday. Went to stop at a junction and as i leaned to the left to put my foot on the ground so i could check it was clear to cross over the back of my jacket caught on the saddle and i went over!!! Luckily didnt hurt myself badly just two lovely big bruises on my legs but i did feel so embarressed as a young man in a sports car pulled over to see if i was ok and a young girl rushed over as well. Still its nice to know that others will help when you have a fall.

The numb finger sounds worrying. Don't you hate the fact that your memory is a blank between walking along and lying flat on your back? Or do you really remember flying through the air?

Oh dear OP. Awful sign of us getting a bit older. Wet leaves on a path aren't the councils fault however. As for the numb finger, I'd go get that checked you may have torn a tendon.

Whether young or older, I defy anyone to "remember" actually falling due to it being a bit quick.

I tripped over a fallen branch about 6 weeks ago, bruised arm, sore swollen finger from holding onto a horse food bucket, sore knees. Gradually recovered then had a chiropractor appointment yesterday where it was found 2 neck vertebrae and my pelvis had probably been out of synch with my spine since the fall!

I fell over 3 times on wet moss on a steep path during the winter. I have asked the council repeatedly to do something about it but they haven't. It blinking well hurt and the second time it happened my knee was sore for a week.

At least you don't have osteoporosis.....evidently!

Since I fell and badly broke my wrist a few years ago, I am always very careful and slow on muddy slopes etc. Makes me feel old being so cautious, but I really want to avoid that again.

You (well okay, I) feel such a twit don't you? I managed to fall over outside our medical centre - where I was heading to have my flu jab last October...
When I apologised to the nurse for the mud on my trousers, she put some paper on the chair before I sat down -- but that was the extent of her care (as she could see that I was walking and talking, so I was out in less than two minutes). My knee and hands were sore for days and I'd obviously taken my weight on one arm, as I ached all down that side for over a week... Hey ho - hope you have no after-effects

I tripped opposite a pub's sitting out area (no, I hadn't been in!) and went down with a crash. I was mortified but the kindness of total strangers who took me to the pharmacy round the corner, the staff who cleaned my "wound" and rang the GP who saw me immediately, almost made the humiliation worthwhile. Hope you feel better soon Bluebelle.

Now, if you'd got mud all over your jeans don't forget that they're meant to be the height of fashion. Some daft b*&&%*s would pay good money for them.

I ve woken up this morning feeling fine, finger sore, Bum slightly stiff but not a bruise in sight lucky woman
