Normal ? or OCD?

My family and friends would tell you I'm not housework obsessed....in fact some would say I only do it when its not possible to leave it any longer.BUT ...I had to remake the beds this morning after my grandaughter "helped" by making them for me .I like the duvet to come to just in front of the pillows, the pillows stacked with one standing and the boudoir cushion placed in between.Thats not how they were done.It made me think about how many other things I change or rearrange to how I like them .Then I realised thats probably why I do all the housework etc myself .So is this OCD ? Here was I thinking I was very casual about things house related and it seems I'm not.

I agree with ab.

OCD is a distressing condition that can prevent sufferers living a normal life. Being neat, tidy and organised is just that. I'm the same as you - i like my bed/house/surroundings a certain way and i can't relax properly unless things are just so. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm a bit uptight maybe, but who cares?

What really bugs me is getting in at the end of the day to find things not as I would like.

Some obsessive tendancies are common. It's only a disorder (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) when it significantly interfers with personal, occupational or social life.

Fussy is the word.

My duvet is pulled up, pillow plonked down that's my bed making when I had three small children it probably never got made so now is a BIG improvement no one to see it but me no desire to have it perfect just functional

Only my son can make my 6' bed as well if not better than me. I hate scruffy beds ..... Bit like having beautiful garden borders withou the lawn being mowed.

I'm definitely OCD!!! Even my clothes are colour coordinated in the wardrobe. The kitchen cupboards are a little messy because OH uses them.

I like OCD .....

Have just read other replies. Ok I'm not OCD just fussy about having a clean and tidy home.

I hang the duvet out of the window when the weather is good. If the rest of the town think I'm eccentric, that's their problem, not mine. It smells lovely and fresh when it comes in - why shouldn't I?

Lazigirl Tue 02-May-17 13:41:34

Kacee I hate to break this to you but spiders can get in any old where!

Legs55 Tue 02-May-17 13:42:36

I do make my bed when I get up & put my throw over as cat likes to sleep on my bed during the day. Combination of cat with dirty paws & white bedding is not good.

I hate housework & can leave most jobs except washing up, once a day before I go to bed, bathroom is cleaned several times a week & kitchen surfaces wiped down. Hoovering gets done when I feel like & dusting when it suddenly annoys megrin.

I do like certain items in the right place but I wouldn't jump up straight away to put it right.

Um I am diagnosed with mild OCD so I guess things like this are normal to me. I like order and yes I like the bed made when I get out of it. I always tidy it up after hubby gets up too if he hasn't done it properly. I like the kitchen neat and tidy and well the whole house really. Just basics kept on top of each day

wot Tue 02-May-17 14:14:06

Merlot, ?? I had a dog who used to jump on the bed just when I was making it or trying to change it!!

TriciaF Tue 02-May-17 14:21:29

My eldest son used to do that then bounce up and down and laugh tee-hee - drove me mad!

I have a fixation with certain numbers. For example if I'm tidying up I'll put 5 (or 9, or 11 or 19 or 23) things away in each room depending on the need. Or I'll practise the piano for any of those number of minutes, or do exercise repetitions 5, 9, 11, 19 or 23 times depending on the kind of exercise.

They are all prime numbers, but there are other prime numbers which don't interest me at all.

Yes, I'm clearly bonkers!

Jalima1108 Tue 02-May-17 15:22:26

Grannyguitar how do you fix it? Do you partially close the window on it (I have visions of a duvet bowling around the street wrapping itself around an unsuspecting dog!!)

henetha Tue 02-May-17 15:23:05

It's a bit OCD to be so fussy about your bed, but harmless. Whatever it takes to get us through the day, as long as it doesn't harm others, then it's o.k.

Jalima1108 Tue 02-May-17 15:23:21

I do wish that people hadn't told me certain superstitions as I get very anxious if the rules are broken, even by other people.

Ana Tue 02-May-17 15:27:36

Jalima*, I'm a bit concerned about the duvet-out-of-the-window thing as well. What about the state of the brickwork (or whatever) and the risk of bird poo? shock

Jalima1108 Tue 02-May-17 15:28:30

I think they do this on the Continent

At least if I remember rightly from reading Heidi when I was about 9.

Northernlass Tue 02-May-17 15:55:20

I remember watching a tv programme a while back and Fiona Bruce saying she couldn't see the point of cushions on beds - where do you put them when you want to go to sleep, just a load of faff etc! I'm with her I'm afraid. It does sound a bit OCD - unless you're trying to sell your house, of course!
I fold back the duvet, plump the pillows and get out in the world!

Blinko Tue 02-May-17 16:07:21

I too hang out the washing in a certain order. Also I have coloured plastic clothes pegs. They have to be in a certain order on the line when I put the washing out. So a yellow peg can't be next to another yellow, but it can be diagonally opposite a yellow peg on the same item. They need to be evenly interspersed with the other three colours..... erm, I think this is normal (for me, anyway) smile

Caro1954 Tue 02-May-17 16:10:23

It's not so much the bed - I air well then tidy up and make later on - it's the sofa cushions and throw (which is needed to hide a mark where I tried to scrub a spill off). DH make a total pigs breakfast of them even if he only sits down for five minutes! He'll even work his way from one end to the other to make a thorough job of it! angry

Greyduster Tue 02-May-17 16:28:38

When we lived in Holland all the local people on our estate hung their duvets out of the windows. You could tell where we Brits lived! Our bedding stayed firmly on the bed!

Anniebach Tue 02-May-17 16:30:17

Some confuse OCD with superstitions

hicaz46 Tue 02-May-17 16:52:27

I'm with ninathenana duvet folded back ready to be pulled back up at bedtime. Only deviation is if we have guests who might peek or visit our bedroom for something

Gaggi3 Tue 02-May-17 16:56:07

I certainly don't hover, or even hoover every day. I like housework to be done but preferably not by me. Just had DGC staying (2y 9 m, girl and boy) Had a big (for me) tidy/clean before, but it didn't last long and I don't care.
