Normal ? or OCD?

Teetime. I am a bit like you too. I could never , ever leave a bed unmade, perhaps if the house was on fire, but even then I would hesitate !we have a top sheet as well as a Duvet. DH says I tuck in so tightly it is like sliding into an envelope.

I put a T Towel on the worktop, it has to be folded in a certain way, and placed at exactly the correct angle ( Correct as defined by me)

Oh Dear I sound dreadful. The thing is I am not judgmental at all If I was at someone else's house and it was muddled for want of a better word I would not care one jot, nor think any the less of them. I just like it MY way in our own home.

I think we need an "I am a domestic slob thread."
Can one be obessively disorganised? It sounds a bit like an oxymoron to me.

I'm with you Paddyann. Not only does my bed have to be made when I get out it...it has to be aestetically pleasing...unfortunately, I do all of the housework so that everything is neatly in place! I'm not houseproud as such and I don't have to have the latest trends in furnishings..I'm more of a shabby chic person... but I must have neat and tidy!

I feel that doing certain jobs in the house everyday gives structure to my day. There is no way i could leave the house without making the beds, unless an extreme emergency. My kitchen is always cleaned everyday but we do leave cups plates from supper overnight to be washed in the morning. My washing and ironing are up todate and the bathroom cleaned regularly. I take pride in the fact anyone could drop in and the house would be clean and tidy in the essential areas. I do have a few cobwebs and maybe the stairs dont get cleaned as often as they should but hey i have a busy life people to see and places to go, plus of course this time of the year my wonderful garden and greenhouse take up a lot of my time.

My family tell me i am OCD, i know i am but hey what can you do ?

If I rush out and forget to make the bed there is often an accusatory 'You didn't make the bed' from DH!! Odd, really, because he will help me change the duvet cover and do all kinds of other tasks.

I'm a housework hater, and do as little as possible, as infrequently as possible!
I need visitors every so often as that's the only time everywhere gets a good going over,
However, bathroom and kitchen towels have to be all hung the same way, bathroom towels and bath mats have to match exactly, cups have handles to the right, pattern at the front, plates in size order, loo roll end being over and down at the front, washing used to be put put on the line with colour coordinated pegs, but now I have stainless steel pegs, which stopped that! All my herbs and spices are in alphabetical order in seagrass baskets, but I use a lot of different flavourings, so it makes sense, I can find what I want really quickly. Jewellery has to be put back in the right compartment of the jewellery box, toothbrushes go in their own hole in the bathroom holder, shampoo and shower gel bottles all have the labels facing front, bedlinen has to be plain white.......oh God, I'm weird aren't I?

It doesn't matter if anyone is a bit on the OCD side, as long as their life isn't ruined by it.
I would think most people have their own funny little ways of doing things.
I pull back the duvet to air, and rarely make the bed before 11am.Then it's just to straighten the sheet, plump up our pillows and pull the duvet up again.One pillow each and no cushions or anything else( there used to be a sleeping cat)
If we are very busy I sometimes forget to make it then there are outraged squawks from Mr Roses ( who is tidier than me.)

I certainly don't hover, or even hoover every day. I like housework to be done but preferably not by me. Just had DGC staying (2y 9 m, girl and boy) Had a big (for me) tidy/clean before, but it didn't last long and I don't care.

I'm with ninathenana duvet folded back ready to be pulled back up at bedtime. Only deviation is if we have guests who might peek or visit our bedroom for something

Some confuse OCD with superstitions

When we lived in Holland all the local people on our estate hung their duvets out of the windows. You could tell where we Brits lived! Our bedding stayed firmly on the bed!

It's not so much the bed - I air well then tidy up and make later on - it's the sofa cushions and throw (which is needed to hide a mark where I tried to scrub a spill off). DH make a total pigs breakfast of them even if he only sits down for five minutes! He'll even work his way from one end to the other to make a thorough job of it!

I too hang out the washing in a certain order. Also I have coloured plastic clothes pegs. They have to be in a certain order on the line when I put the washing out. So a yellow peg can't be next to another yellow, but it can be diagonally opposite a yellow peg on the same item. They need to be evenly interspersed with the other three colours..... erm, I think this is normal (for me, anyway)

I remember watching a tv programme a while back and Fiona Bruce saying she couldn't see the point of cushions on beds - where do you put them when you want to go to sleep, just a load of faff etc! I'm with her I'm afraid. It does sound a bit OCD - unless you're trying to sell your house, of course!
I fold back the duvet, plump the pillows and get out in the world!

Jalima*, I'm a bit concerned about the duvet-out-of-the-window thing as well. What about the state of the brickwork (or whatever) and the risk of bird poo?

I do wish that people hadn't told me certain superstitions as I get very anxious if the rules are broken, even by other people.

It's a bit OCD to be so fussy about your bed, but harmless. Whatever it takes to get us through the day, as long as it doesn't harm others, then it's o.k.

Grannyguitar how do you fix it? Do you partially close the window on it (I have visions of a duvet bowling around the street wrapping itself around an unsuspecting dog!!)

I have a fixation with certain numbers. For example if I'm tidying up I'll put 5 (or 9, or 11 or 19 or 23) things away in each room depending on the need. Or I'll practise the piano for any of those number of minutes, or do exercise repetitions 5, 9, 11, 19 or 23 times depending on the kind of exercise.

They are all prime numbers, but there are other prime numbers which don't interest me at all.

My eldest son used to do that then bounce up and down and laugh tee-hee - drove me mad!
