A 45 minute shower

No I think she is. 45 minutes!!!!

If you are abnormal then so am I. In and out of the shower, including washing hair in under 10 minutes. Who has 45 minutes to spare to spend showering!!

I would get bored!!

I don't even spend that amount of time in the bath.

She's the abnormal one, in many, many ways!
She seemed like a nice woman, but although we all like to spoil our children at times, she was way over the top!
As for her having the heating thermostat set at 30°C, absolutely ridiculous!

I'm glad someone else has commented on this. What is she doing in there? Some of the other expenses also seemed over the top too. How can you save £55 a year on air freshener, the aerosol sort? That's save, not spend. open the windows. I think there might have been a touch of exaggeration going on.

I was astonished at how much they spent - their income must be very high. However, I missed the beginning so they could have been in debt.

My GS is attempting to go for that but is constantly interrupted by his parents banging on the door and demanding he comes out NOW!

Good Lord! Like Whitewave I would die of boredom if I spent that long in the shower, not to mention coming out looking like a prune (more of a prune than usual, that is!). Under ten minutes for me too when I am including a hairwash. As for the heating thermostat, even in an uninsulated house that would be ludicrous. Ours has not been above fifteen all winter.

We have tank fed power shower, so I'm sure the tank would be empty well before 45 mins.
I hope the lady isn't on a water meter.

Also having heating so high can't be healthy.

I think I would have been too embarrassed to be on the programme, 45 minutes in the shower, thermostat on 30, all those shoes, tablets, tv's etc etc etc

We also watched that program and were staggered at the very idea of such a long shower ... ours are well under 10 minutes including the time taken to hose the cubicle down and de-soap it!

There was much wastage ... loading up the tumble drier when the sun was shining outside for example!

I though it a bit sad that Dad wanted the boys (6 boys and 2 girls!) to have the 'best' brand as he saw it ... in actual fact the boys were all happy with cheaper phones and unbranded trainers. As were the little girls with their non-Hunter wellies!

Also wondering what the programme was called, think I would like to watch it.
My eldest DGD could easily spend 45 minutes in the shower, I hasten to add she is not allowed to!

Can't believe someone would actually spend 45 minutes showering, did she have some type of OCD ?
10 minutes is plenty I think, as for money spent on air freshener that must be quite an unhealthy environment. I didn't see the programme but expect they had extreme instances to keep it interesting.

Was it How to Spend Less - it was on BBC1? yes I had forgotten the heating at 30degrees. I try to moderate my heating but I have a condition which is worsened by being cold so mine wavers between 20- 22 and I have a blanket on my legs if sitting down. I couldn't watch the whole programme as our technology failes (I had recorded it0 so if its fixed today I shall rewatch the last part. I had some sympathy. I use my tumble dryer always for towels and for thicker clothes like jeans in the winter but its out on the line as soon as I can or on the airer (an unheated one) in the utility room but only overnight - cant stand seeing washing drying. I must say I prefer branded products but have found Wilko's household goods very good. As for the shoes and clothes, I pads etc etc!!!

It's shop well for less. They had a room just for shoes.

I can shower and wash my hair in 15 minutes. I don't like to be chilled and keep the temp at 23. The rest of the show was OOT.

As my dad would have said "put a jumper on"! I could hardly believe some of it.

I always wonder what other women do in the bathroom when they're a long time. Similarly in loos when you're queueing somewhere! I'm a 10 minutes person too. I do think the makers of these programmes look for extreme cases to document. The unkind bit of me wants to add that the rest of us pay the price for the thoughtless, eg those who smoke in bed have led to everything in sight being doused in unpleasant and potentially dangerous fire retardant! Assuming here that not many GNetters are perpetrators!

Thames Water have recently given me an egg-timer type four minute hourglass to put on the bathroom wall, this apparently being the standard time for a shower.

grumppa this sounds like a wartime thing - 5 inches of bathwater. I couldn't do 4 minutes if I had other bits of body housework to do- deforestation that kind of thing but 10 would easily be enough.

Forty five minutes is long enough for me to shower, dry hair, put on face,clean teeth,dress, make and eat breakfast and get out of the door.

It depends on whether or not I fall asleep in the bath.

I used to read a book but can't do that nowadays because my specs steam up.

Same here, Pittcity, I always set the alarm for 45 minutes before I have to leave. My DDIL claims to manage it all in 30 minutes! Showering is so boring, I doubt I even take 3 minutes for my quick wash and dry (I wash my hair over the bath beforehand). And I can't imagine living in the 30 degree heat. We have ours set for 19 in the evening but usually turn it down to 17 after a couple of hours. Now a bath - with lovely scenty stuff, bubbles, book, radio, face pack and a glass of cup of something's a different matter - I can linger in there for well over an hour.

They did seem like a lovely family though.
