Queen Camilla

Prince Charles is campaigning for Camilla to be Queen Camilla when he becomes King. I would not like her to be Queen. I think they both behaved appallingly in carrying on their affair when they were both married to someone else. They had no concern for the hurt, upset and heartbreak they caused Diana and Andrew PB. They just thought it was perfectly OK to act as they did. It's 80 years since Edward abdicated to marry a divorced woman, and Margaret was not able to marry Peter Townsend, even though she was unlikely to ascend the throne. So what rules have changed? He has what he wanted and married her, but making her Queen is condoning their adultery.
But I think I'm in the minority in my view.

Back to serious discussion, Merlotgran, I cannot recall the name of the American, he invited Diana and her sons to his home in America, I don't think the Windsor children visit america do they? Anyway it was regarded as a security risk for the children - not for her ! mmmmm? It was then she arranged the holiday with Al Fayed, her step mother worked at his shop. Al Fayed dragged Dodi away from the girl he was engaged to and it all happened then. I was surprised given her views on drugs she didn't have a problem with poor Dodi and his little habit

Of course they would have done DNA testing- it is very easy these days. I am tempted for family history reasons having been to a family history talk on it.

Has no-one anything better to do? I'm off to do something more interesting like cleaning the loo!!
That's why I was on here - a bit of gossip is better than cleaning the loo grin

Jalima Tue 28-Feb-17 20:12:12

What a dreadful representation of a worthwhile forum which can offer wise advice and sympathetic support when needed.
Get a grip!

grin
I realise that life is not all Hee Hee Ha Ha but sometimes, just sometimes, a bit of daftness can lighten up the threads - we can't be wise all the time and doling out tea and sympathy can take its toll on a person!!

Jalima Tue 28-Feb-17 20:14:07

Mindlessness is supposed to be good for you anniebach

Or was that Min*ful*ness?
Can't remember at the moment

Jalima Tue 28-Feb-17 20:15:11

oh dear, too many pancakes

Mindfulness. There is a Ladybird book about it.

Anniebach Tue 28-Feb-17 20:41:16

As mindfulness is suppose to clear the mind of all except for the present moment is there any difference to mindlessness I ask?

I have noticed quite a few links on Facebook to sites that purport to provide salacious details of Diana Princess of Wales' voracious sexual liaisons. I have not been tempted to look at any of them and suspect that at least some, if not all of the details and allegations are false. She's been dead for 19 or 20 years; it's the time to besmirch, just as the time following her death was the time to sanctify and it all brings in advertising revenue.

Anniebach Tue 28-Feb-17 22:09:41

Surely rumours were around quite soon after her death , within two years it seemed all except her milkman wrote a book. I can't remember how long the ghastly Burrell took , her fortune teller didn't take too long. I don't know if Kitty Kelley wrote one, one of her books on the royals was banned in this country

meandashy Wed 01-Mar-17 11:24:56

I think Diana and Charles were as bad as each other!
I don't agree with cheating whether you're royalty or not!
I don't think he should be king and if he takes the throne she shouldn't be queen

mrsmopp Wed 01-Mar-17 13:04:36

I am still using my Charles and Diana wedding souvenir tea towels.
Amazing that they have lasted as long as this! They were half price the week after that wedding! I bought a set of 6 as they were linen.

Anniebach Wed 01-Mar-17 13:42:56

would those who are so against Charles because he had an affair refuse to accept a teacher who had an affair from teaching, refuse treatment from a doctor who had an affair? Never bother to call for a police officer , risk is far too high

Watching the documentary series on the Windsors last night it suggested that a young Charles was told he couldn't marry his girlfriend Camilla because of her past. If it's true then he's just as much a victim as anyone of them from the ridiculous rules and morals which are part of their lives.

If we have to have a royal family and monarchs then just let her have the title of Queen. Does it matter?

The Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla Shand as she then was) and the Prince Charles began their relationship in 1970, at a polo match before either of them were married. Friendship grew into romance, with Camilla often spending time in the Prince's apartments in Buckingham Palace. Charles and Camilla soon were frequently seen out together enjoying themselves.

Camilla eventually married Army officer Andrew Parker Bowles in July 1973 shortly after Prince Charles was sent abroad on a naval posting. Andrew Parker Bowles was a friend of the Prince of Wales and a apparently a godson of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother

Camilla's relationship with Charles continued as friendship. Charles became a regular guest at the Parker Bowles' house and was a godfather to their first child.

Camilla was official escort to the Prince during the Zimbabwean independence celebrations in 1980 (Charles did not marry Diana until 1981).

Throughout it all, Camilla declined to make any public comment. After her divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles, she had moved to Raymill House, a 30-minute drive from Prince Charles's Highgrove home. This made her contact with Charles much easier, and they could stop relying on discreet friends with country houses offering them accommodation.

Camilla was not popular with the British public at this time. The airing of the 'Camillagate' tapes, mobile phone conversations between Camilla and Charles, which had been plucked off the airways by a scanner, did not help her image. She said in the tapes 'I'd suffer anything for you. That's love.' And Charles said that he would like to 'live inside your trousers', with a reference to a tampon thrown in.

The Prince of Wales later made a public admission, in a television interview with Jonathan Dimbleby, that he had in fact committed adultery. The Parker-Bowleses soon announced their divorce in 1995, although they had been living apart for some time. Andrew Parker Bowles soon remarried.

Diana had originally been a friend of Camilla, but later started to refer to her as"the Rottweiler". Diana understood Camilla had known before she did, that Charles was going to propose marriage to Diana. And the Princess of Wales publicly blamed the extra-marital relationship between her husband and Camilla for the break-up of their marriage, saying "There were three in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded."

Camilla is a Grandmother – She has two children from her first marriage and five grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, Eliza Lopes, was a bridesmaid at William and Kate’s

Just google Camilla, Charles and Diana and there's lots more.

Its not the fact that he had an affair. Lots of people do, it life, its people, its nobody else's business.
I just feel that living a life in the public eye, accepting the privileges that go with being a royal, becoming defender of the whatever, carry a certain responsibility to do the right thing (or at least be seen to do it)
Charles didn't. The public have softened considerably towards Camilla, and he should content himself with that.

Anniebach Wed 01-Mar-17 17:13:10

Charles admitted to adultery after hus marriage had broken down.

If one's husband had an affair and left one distraught , broken hearted etc, and tell the world there were three in the marriage, would one want to be the third in several womens marriages in full knowledge the same suffering was being experienced by those women ?

When push comes to shove, what difference is it going to make to the life of anyone in the UK or the 15 (?) Commonwealth countries of which the British monarch is also queen or king, whether the Duchess of Cornwall remains the Duchess of Cornwall, becomes Queen Consort Camilla, becomes Princess Consort Camilla or the Archimandrite of Nether Wallop?

Anniebach Wed 01-Mar-17 19:09:18

With the exception of those who hold strict religious views on adultery and devorce then no difference st all. Or a Diana fan who think there is no revenge for Diana but if Camilla was prevented from being queen they would see it as s victory for Diana

Leticia Thu 02-Mar-17 07:23:47

The succession will be according to protocol. It isn't a soap opera, despite a lot of people in here seeming to know a lot about it! Monarchs have always behaved badly.
Whether the monarchy will survive after the present Queen is a different matter.

Nannanoo Thu 02-Mar-17 09:12:00

Camilla seems a decent enough old stick, and no doubt would make as good a Queen as most.
It's all pretty irrelevant anyway, they're not gods, they're human beings with all the associated faults and weaknesses. What's important is that they keep prancing around in their jewels and flummery in order to massage our tourism industry, which seems to be all we'll have left before long.
I have nothing against the royals as people, and I'm sure they fulfill a purpose, but I think they should all take a pay cut in these straitened times - you see, we're all in it together as whatsisname said!

Beammeupscottie Thu 02-Mar-17 09:33:52

Did anyone see the Tracy Ullman show where TU dressed up as Camilla buying clothes in a Charity Shop and slapping notes on the counter, saying "20 mother-in-laws, 10 mother-in-laws". She is apparently very humorous and would howl at that.

Nannanoo Thu 02-Mar-17 09:59:23

Charles' and Diana's marriage broke up BECAUSE of his adultery! Diana opened a parcel addressed to Charles (yes, I know but she must have been suspicious, perhaps it smelt of perfume), and she found inside a bracelet with F and G letter charms on it. The initials of the names these two used to refer to each other as.

How would you have reacted had it been your husband? Wouldn't you have confronted him? Would have you felt ok with your husband-to-be wearing cufflinks given to him by his mistress, at your wedding? Would you have put up with him going off to meet his mistress whilst you were on honeymoon? Personally I would have called it a day then and there. It wasn't just one marriage these two split up it was two and four children, two on each side, lost their mother. But hey, that's life aye? Actually I think they deserve what they get myself. They knew exactly what they were doing.

Diana did not have affairs until the scandal hit the papers. She could have been happy if it had not been for gold digger Camilla. Who needs friends like that?

Just because Kings and Queens behaved the same way in the past does not excuse their behaviour. In the past men were allowed to beat their wives, they aren't now.
