Oh dear, that old chestnut.

He may not look like Henry VIII (we only have portraits, not actual photos to go by) but he certainly has the Spencer red hair and is more like his uncle, Earl Spencer, than anyone.

But her sister dated him before she did. Her Grannie was lady in waiting to the QM, her father was equerry to the queen, the Spencers holidayed at balmoral, queenie is godmother to Charles Spencer, she hadn't heard anything ?

Was there an agreement one of the Spencer girls would marry Charles . And what did Diana mean when she said of Andrew that- he spent a lot of time playing PlayStation games, I knew he wasn't for me. Why did she just have a feeling she had to remain a virgin.

Why on the day of the engagement did her father in an interview say - she was a healthy baby, perfectly formed, what father's talks of his daughter being a healthy baby on her engagement day.

Forgot. And she started the affair with Hewitt whrn the children were small, they were together five years , she said - yes I loved him,i adored him.

I found it strange the "emotional incontinence" at Diana's funeral-which seems to have stuck since-where did our stiff upper lip go then? There must be a half way place between the two!
I find the whole monarchy thing so outdated. You cannot blame them for keeping the family business and wealth going-it's no more than the rest of us do in our own modest ways, of course. But, really, it's time for all this nonsense to end. We would still have tourists as do other countries who have had the sense to get rid of one privileged family. (Yes I do realise Spain got theirs back but that was after a dictator!)
In these difficult times for many-when has it not been so?-to keep this family going on unearned income which ultimately comes from us is unbelievable.
Yes I realise the pitfalls of an elected leader but, at least, they can be got rid of after their term of office. Imagine if we'd been stuck with some other members of the royal family-eg Pompous Andrew and his layabout daughters?

I've popped in and out of this thread two or three times but I wouldn't call it wasting hours gossiping.

I agree, merlot, a bit of idle gossip isn't going to besmirch Gransnet's reputation to the extent that it's in tatters!

I a have no desire to read cooking threads, accept some wish to and respect this , seems some are not capable of showing the same respect to threads which bore them.

My reaction to the opening post was 'so what?'
Couldn't believe it was still going when I looked back today so quick skim read showed republican spite at one and of the spectrum and fawning sycophancy at the other!
I gave 2 examples of what I see as GN's strengths but didnt suggest that discussions should be limited to those topics.
Maybe because I saw it as one enormous dollop of mindless tittle-tattle rather than the drip-feeding that posters experienced over a few days?

Well, seeing as Diana's dead and no fresh scandal seems to have come to light, it's hardly 'shades of les tricoteuses'.

And I doubt whether any one of us has spent more than a few minutes on this thread, never mind 'hours'...

Maybe HQ should also have their wrists slapped for putting it on 'Discussion of the Day.'

In this day of DNA sequencing anyone who worked for them, could get hold of something belonging to Harry and Charles and find out whether Charles is his father. There has been nothing so we can assume he is Charles' son.

I'm sure no one even entertains the notion these days - it was all speculation and, yes, gossip a long time ago.
