Xmas jumpers - what do you think?

Oo-er the resident style gurus decree "toe-curling" and "cheap and nasty" - how rude, Emilie not to say uncalled-for. Who do they think they are? Trinny and Susannah?

I've never had a Xmas jumper but in January this year I bought 2 in the sales for 3pounds each. My poor DH is getting on for Xmas which I doubt if he will appreciate but what the heck!!

I'll just put my head above the parapet and say that this morning I was in Primark and they had lots of lovely soft Christmas jumpers at a very reasonable price. I bought one from them a couple of years ago and it is still like new so wasn't looking to buy a jumper ..... I actually had heard that they had Christmas Slippers .... very nice range and I'm taking my toddler DGS in next week to help me choose between Unicorns, Reindeers or Elfs. IMHO if it gives the GC a laugh and a smile that fine by me. I can't solve the world's problems, I give what I can to a number of charities and I really don't care what the likes of Emilie think so they are wasting their breath !! I'm now about to lower my head and get my Christmas Flack Jacket out of the wardrobe !! Ho Ho Ho

Cheap n nasty ! Tacky ! horrible ! ridiculous and I LOVE EM !! I have two ....on bright red with Rudolph on the front complete with flashing nose and one blue with Christmas penuin. Never found any here in Francem no one seems to wear them (unless they are mad Brits like me !) ...everyone in town loves them ...especially the children who prefer the Rudolph one ......think I seem to remember seeing a few modest ones this year (as in knits with an integral Christmas tree or a star) here, but only in catalogues ! Hubby refuses to wear one .....hates Christmas .....

SO ..go for it, the world is a difficult enough place these days you may as well raise a smile wherever you can !

Far too plastic and therefore too hot for me but I admire those who wear 'em with aplomb - perhaps to eat their plomb pudding, geddit? Oh well, it's a miserable afternoon here, not much to do and poor old DH has toothache.

Absolutely love them!! I have several - collected over the years and I have treated myself to a new one from Next with Christmas puddings all over it ??? I usually only buy cotton as I find wool too itchy .... My grand-girlies would never forgive me if I didn't wear one together with the reindeer earrings ....?????

I LOVE Christmas and I LOVE everything connected to it and I LOVE having FUN!!

Last year I inherited a bit of money,so I treated my DGD (now 10) to a Christmas jumper,so she could wear it to her school's 'Christmas jumper day' at the end of term. We went in Primarily,and £26 later she was thrilled with her 'reindeer with flashing lights' on jumper!

That should say 'Primark' not 'primarily'! Bloody autocorrect.

I have a couple of t-shirts as I don't wear jumpers very often because I get too hot, one from Tesco's and the other from BHS. I must admit I prefer the "nicer" ones not the tacky ones

I have a robin jumper from M & S that I wear every year. Christmassy, but not over the top!

I have a Christmas cardigan which I bought on the Primark sale rail for £14.99 about two years ago. It is pure wool and has a tasteful red and white pattern with reindeer and snowflakes.

I also have a cotton Christmas jumper from M&S children's department with royal blue fair isle elephants on it!

I adapted a red cardigan from a charity shop by stitching on felt Christmas trees, complete with tinsel etc. This year I have knitted myself a cream jumper with a design of snowflakes in a raspberry colour. With the left over wool I now have a matching hat. I think I'll retire the cardigan as it didn't really work but I hope the jumper will last for years.

Bon Marche have some lovely ones this year. Fine knit jumpers and long sleeve t shirts.

Just had an idea. Anyone who can't afford or object to buying a jumper could do a DIY job with an old T-shirt or jumper & attach a santa etc out of scraps of material or just pin baubles to it like you are a Xmas tree. I never think of it until the shops have run out of them & forget by the sales. But this Xmas, I have an idea! However, I always prefer free choice & would never tell people what to wear.

I am entitled to put my opinion. I would never say that anyone should not wear them if they like them, but I can give my opinion of them.

One Poster on here( I forget who for the moment), says that some People are just miserable, and do not know how to have FUN. How very narrow minded of her to say that. Does it make me miserable because I find Christmasa Jumpers revolting, other than when worn by Children? I think not.

I am not by nature a miserable person. It is true that I have had little fun for years now, but that is because of circumstances, just been a very bad, and very long bad...patch. My idea of fun though is not to wear a Christmas jumper, and as other Posters have suggested act silly having imbibed a little too much alcohol. No thank you, not for me.

I don't have one but I think they're a bit of fun and bring a smile to most faces. Anyway, we're allowed to be tacky at Xmas!

I've got one that's fluffy with a snowflake design. Bought it before Christmas jumpers became all the rage. Bit too warm though. Also got a sweatshirt one with a busy Christmas scene. It's just a bit of fun after all. If people don't want to go to any expense how about customising a plain sweater?

Not for me. Like you Sunseeker I would feel uncomfortably conspicuous but they do add to some of the Christmas jollity on others. I might go for a tee shirt. I've never been seen in a onesie either. Thank goodness they've had their day.

I thought about buying all the adults a Jolly Christmas Jumper but it worked out at not far short of £140 so back to Square 1. In the meantime, my DD in Australia who is returning home for Christmas with her family has sent me details of these rather snazzy mens' pants. Rudolph flashes and the Elf jingles . Could be fun for the men folk so long as they wore them over their trousers
