Xmas jumpers - what do you think?

They're harmless, but to me it just seems like another way for retailers to extract money from customers and one more item that people feel they have to get in order to 'do' Christmas properly. I love tradition and I suppose this is another tradition that has been created. But I guess I prefer ones that don't rely on having to buy something. It's also a drain on parents when schools have a Christmas jumper day. One more thing to have to get at an already expensive time of year. Blimey, I'm a joy aren't I

I don't wear one but a friend has worn the same Christmas jumper for years its actally a joke in her family 'oh oh Grandmas got her Chrimbo jumper on', no need to buy a new one unless it doesn't fit of course.

I have never had an Xmas jumper and would love one, but I think they have to be cheap and cheerful as their "lifespan" is short each year. Xmas jumpers in January are like mince pies in March!!

Seizetheafternoon, yes, fancy dress day, character from a book day, Christmas jumper day, Easter bonnet day, Children in Need dress up day, Red Nose day, Egyptian day etc etc; the children hardly need school uniform any longer.

I don't wear them myself (rather not draw attention to my far from perfect body) but I do smile when I see people wearing them.

I would like to wear one for fun but get hot flushes so I rarely wear jumpers. Has anyone seem a Christmas cardigan?

Some of them are quite nice and others are gross and made of scratchy material. My daughter bought a lovely dark blue one with just silver stars on last year for her office party. If I buy one no-one will see it except DH and I. I prefer to dress up for Xmas Eve and Xmas Day- we put our posh frocks on.

No, never really felt the need. And as others have said they do look scratchy and a bit uncomfortable to wear ( at least the garden centre ones!)
Our little DGD aged two ( who is here now, I am on a break as DH is reading her some stories) is actually wearing one that looks nice and soft, so maybe childrens jumpers are better.I rarely wear them (jumpers) either, like Liz prefer a cardigan that I can take off if hot.No harm in wearing one if you want to though.?

I bought one 2 years ago that is icy blue with a robin on the front. I wear it for fun a couple of times before and after Christmas, seeing it more as a nod to winter rather than the festive season.

Like Tanith, we prefer to dress up for family get-togethers over Christmas

I have a purple one with a penguin on, but it's been hijacked by DD as it goes over her bump. I also own 2christmas t-shirts, one says what happens under the mistletoe stays under the mistletoe, the other is a list of this for a great Christmas

If they are worn for a joke, fine, as in me with my reindeer antlers and my LBD, but if it's serious, no no no.

I'd quite like a Christmas, long sleeved tee shirt type thing to wear in the library in the run up to the big day - anyone seen any of those?

I bought myself a Christmas jumper last year. It's pale grey, lovely and soft with a Christmas dog on the front. But I only wore it for about 30 mins because I got too hot! Does anyone know where I can get a Christmas t-shirt?

I have a Christmas jumper which is like a fair isle jumper, just a geometric pattern of trees and reindeers in rows, white on read. Nothing in your face or ho ho ho about it.

I have had it for about five years and can happily wear it from the beginning of December or even earlier. I bought it in Fat Face and it is just as soft and warm as any other sweater I have bought.

I will continue to wear it for the foreseeable future.

If you are too hot in a sweater, just turn the central heating thermostat down. You will save money as well.

I couldn't do that in the library Monica, there are other people to consider.

If you're in someone else's house you can't do that - well you could
and if you're cooking and get hot and everyone else is sitting around sipping a drink and nibbling peanuts then they might feel too cold.

I do like the Fair Isle ones though, they are more classy!

Just bought a t shirt to wear whilst cooking dinner on Christmas Day. Only 6 quid ?

I bought a nice cotton jumper (from Cotton Traders) with sparkly stars on it a couple of years ago for Christmas wear.

Today I bought another one, a Fairisle design in Asda for a mere £16 ... they had a huge selection to chose from. Mine is suitable for anytime wear, not only Christmas but if you want Santa and reindeer then look no further.

I like to see them on Children. I think they look cheap, nasty and gross, not to mention downright silly on Adults.
