Hooray - the Conservatives won the election!

Several people on GN made posts saying something like " Hooray - the Conservatives won the election! "

I'd like to ask if they, or anyone else who agrees with them, have seen the film "I, Daniel Blake" and, if so, have they any comment to make?

People who were not happy when the Conservatives won the election, please do not post on this thread.

Have you had an answer, FarNorth, and, if so, what do you think of the answer you had?

durhamjen Mon 14-Nov-16 21:54:18

I don't think Labour are to blame for this. Not even you, Annie, can blame Corbyn for it.

America has moved to the far right, France may do the same but the UK will move far left? I think not

durhamjen Mon 14-Nov-16 23:17:03

UK has moved as far right as it can without being UKIP.
May can't pretend to be centre ground with all the cuts still in place in the DWP. She's not doing anything for the poor and the homeless, like she said she would, a government for all.

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 08:48:59

And you and others on the far left will make share the suffering will continue after the next election, it just isn't fair that you condemn Tory voters and at the same time you are supporting an electable party leader .

McDonald is on Today, suppose Cirbyn is hiding behind a glass door with his young female protection team guarding him.

Can't be bothered with your fantasy world Jen ,

Im68Now Tue 15-Nov-16 09:35:34

Please explain Far right is Hitler far left is like, I DON'T KNOW. confused

Jalima Tue 15-Nov-16 10:49:19

suppose Cirbyn is hiding behind a glass door with his young female protection team guarding him.
That would have been hilarious if it wasn't so worrying!

The aide hiding his face like that with a pamphlet or whatever was like a solicitor hiding the accused's face as they scurry in and out of court.
Perhaps she should carry a blanket with her next time, much easier.

As all parties have moved to the right in the last 10 -15 years the "centre" ground is now just Ted Heath Tory and so left of centre is perceived as more extreme!
As more right wing attitudes become 'mainstream' they normalise sad and accepted as OK and leaves space for both real extreme Left and Right to grow and that is how civil unrest/ wars can begin.
Wake up everyone and slow this move to the far right. It it too important to be quibbling over the immediate minutiae ..see the big picture. It benefits nobody but the extremely wealthy to live in an extreme right wing world.

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 11:41:09

Jalima, it was sooooo embarrassing , his complaint - you are harassing me , one question on an early election is harassment ? Every party leader should be able to give an answer without it being prerecorded , he is pathetic, how is he going to fight a general election ? Same as his Brexit campaign, no tv, only momentum rallies, I think so

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 11:45:55

To fight off the far right by going far left is not the answer , the UK voter will not vote for the far left . We saw this through the the thatcher years followed by labour being in the wilderness for years

Jalima Tue 15-Nov-16 11:55:49

That's right anniebach, the only way that Labour got back into power was not by moving to the far left, it was by moving more to the centre and appealing to more people who want neither extreme of right or left.

If the grass roots who voted for Corbyn cannot see that then they will never celebrate a Labour victory.

trisher Tue 15-Nov-16 11:56:06

If you stopped harking back and looked at what is happening now Anniebach you might realise that UKIP are gaining support in working class areas because they offer something different, because they have ideas and alternatives that are outside the narrow centre bubble that politicians have inhabited for the last 30 years. The alternative to UKIP is not a centre left party that no one can now distinguish from the carefully spun rhetoric of the Tories. It is a party that firmly places the blame for poverty on the rich and powerful and offers real alternatives for housing and employment. But ignore the advance of UKIP if you wish and they will continue to gain popularity in the areas of deprivation and poverty that were once labour strongholds.

Jalima Tue 15-Nov-16 12:05:19

Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 12:10:44

trisher, I am quite aware of UKIP gaining votes, people fear immigration . To win an election moving far left may bring in votes from UKIP but will not win an election .

Not looking back, I believe if we do not learn from the past we will repeat the same mistakes in the future.

I am a Labour party member of many years, if Corbyn cannot inspire me how is he going to win votes in middle England .

Can you not see this trisher ?

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 12:11:39

Jslima, I just replied the same as you.

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 12:13:38

And let's not forget it was the unions who won the leadership fir Ed Milliband

trisher Tue 15-Nov-16 13:21:49

It isn't just immigration Anniebach it is a system which has consistently failed to meet housing needs, provide employment which is reliable and pays, protect the NHS and local services, and improve conditions for the poor. Unfortunately the Labour party is seen as part of the problem. I fully agree that it is a difficult path to find, but the centre ground is now firmly occupied by the Tories. We know they are lying and don't care, but the spin doctors have presented them well and many have been fooled by their "caring" speeches. If the Labour party doesn't find some sort of new path it becomes irrelevant. The problem is managing the conflicting issues of appealing to the more affluent whilst reassuring the poorest. Looking at the past doesn't really help, things have changed.

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 14:23:39

trisher, why is recalling 1983 looking back yet 1933 is brought up often

I do understand your frustration but cannot agree that Corbyn will be voted in as PM

Why not fight on the centre ground with a good leader , at least there is a chance of winning . Corbyn is not a good leader

trisher Tue 15-Nov-16 14:44:46

Was Ed Milliband a good leader? Was Gordon Brown? Noth failed so why blame the leader (apart from personal animosity of course).

trisher Tue 15-Nov-16 14:45:28

that should be Both not Noth-can't touch type!!

rosesarered Tue 15-Nov-16 14:50:11

Centre ground with a good leader sounds a good idea to me.

trisher Tue 15-Nov-16 15:06:46

So stick to the strategy that lost the last 2 elections?

paddyann Tue 15-Nov-16 15:15:17

that'll be the economy where the debt has gone from 835 billion to 1.5 TRILLION under the conservatives! If thats managing the books then I'm obviously doing something wrong when my budget balances .I feel sorry for my friends south of the border at least we have some alternative in Scotland to fight against the austerity that is crippling people .We only have about 17% of our affairs devolved ...for now .Our books balance every year.Maybe Westminster should listen to our 56 instead of blocking every attempt they make to change things for the better

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 15:16:30

trisher, please do not join the juveniles who resort to claiming my opinions on Corbyn are based on personal animosity

He is the worse leader lsbour has ever had, he has no fire, he is sly and he has put his ego before the party .This is my opinion as a Labour Party member on the Labour Party leader and it is shared by many

Dear God, a leader who claims being asked a sensible question is harassment

A leader who lied about no room on a train

A leader who wanted out of the EU so avoided tv appearances and went on holiday during the campaign

A leader eho has a protection team of young women

A leader who will not face live questioning on the most listened to political programme

A leader who had a list of his own MP's eho had disagreed with him - trump has the same.

A leader who is dependant on an organisation to set up snd supply crowds at rallies

My personal animosity? No way, my honest opinions on a man eho has split the party and doesn't give s damn

Anniebach Tue 15-Nov-16 15:17:53

rosesarered, logic doesn't work with Corbin devotees
