Hooray - the Conservatives won the election!

I know that, jalima, but I did at least try to get it back to the subject of the film.
I have seen it, so I half qualify.

I think that FarNorth was flogging a dead horse, asking Tory voters if they'd changed their minds after seeing the film. They will always try and justify what they have done.

As would labour supporters, I think.

Except that Labour supporters haven't caused this particular problem, kitty, which is what FarNorth wanted discussing.

She was just making the point that if a film were to be made showing former or future Labour policies in a bad light, its supporters would 'always try and justify what they have done'.

I voted for Blair but campaigned against thr Iraq war, not fair to blame all Tory voters on the poverty shown in the film just as it is unfair to accuse me of supporting that war

If you voted Tory you have to take reponsibility for the effects your vote has had. That is for the increase in the numbers of poor and homeless, the disabled, tested and removed from the benefits system who have died, the reliance on foodbanks and the terrible conditions some people live in. It isn't the same as the Iraq War. Tory policy has always been to reduce the size of the state, cut taxes for the better off and leave the poor to suffer. Labour party policy was never pro-war. Either you were too stupid to realise what Tories do or you didn't care.

Well aren't some Conservative voters justifying the system that has passed 1000s fit for work who have subsequently died soon after that assessment.

I think it would be unusual for the majority of political supporters to be 100% in favour of every action of the party they support.
I did not join any political party until last year. O do not agree with all of the party's poicies but it is the closest to my views.

This is why threads on here often fall into the adversarial style of parliament rather than reasoned debate.

Or we thought it might be the best way in the long run. Didn't Blair, a labour pm, take us to war? Or was he not a real labour leader?

If the people who voted Conservative would like to get together and demonstrate about the way the poor are being treated I would certainly join them. When Tony Blair proposed going to war thousands demonstrated, I don't see anyone doing it now.

I understand your anger against the Tories, i feel angry with Corbyn because he is yet again putting his militant politics before the homeless, hungry, disabled who will suffer more whrn the Tories win the next election

So unfair to condemn all Tory voters yet remain silent on the militant voters who don't care if the next government is Tory as long as they can keep Corbyn as leader of red Labour momentum

I didn't vote Tory. I know what their real policies and ideals are no matter what they may announce or 'spin'. The old guard are still there steering the ship.There seem to be a lot of people who voted but didn't expect what they got, and won't accept responsibility for what they did.

I will not accept responsibility fir the Iraq war, what's so different?

As I said Labour party policy has never been one of war and aggression, yes we voted for Tony Blair but the war was an unexpected and unpredictable event and we at least showed our distaste for it even if we were ignored.

A little regret might be nice

I have always voted Labour and am not embarrassed to say so. Tony Blair was a huge disappointment, especially the Iraq war..which we are still dealing with and which I lobbied & marched against. I am not "my party right or wrong" That said the core values of the Labour party are still the ones I believe in. If I thought tactical voting was worth a go to move political power back to centre ground I would do so. Things have moved so far to the right I fear we have to suffer some extreme situations b4 the pendulum starts to move left again.
