I have just been to Buckingham palace to see the exhibition of the Queen's dresses. Some are beautiful but a large number of the outfits and hats are not. I was very surprised that ER agreed to wear some of the more ridiculous garments. Is it really necessary to embroider national emblems or Olympic Rings on one's evening wear to show respect for the country she is visiting or the occasion she is attending? Perhaps it is an aide memoire. I am wearing tartan so I must be in Scotland.
On the question of tourism, I did visit London especially to see this exhibition, so I can't argue against that. However, does the UK as a whole benefit from Royal tourism? No.
Would the tourists still come if we had no ER? Yes.
Are Andrew's daughters a waste of space? Yes.
IMO of course.

I don't recall her wearing a flat cap or leading a whippet when she visited Newcastle either. Unless that was her I spotted in The Bigg Market, wearing a tiny mini-skirt, bra top and a headscarf.

I don't need much convincing Jane10, considering she probably didn't look after her own much, I can't imagine she would have looked after her grandchildren.

What annoys me is when Prince Charles turns up in a kilt when he's in Scotland at some event where nobody would normally wear one, and the papers say things like "Prince Charles, or the Duke of Rothesay as he is known in Scotland..." No he isn't. He is known as Prince Charles or the Prince of Wales in Scotland as he is elsewhere, and I've never heard anyone refer to him by any of his other titles. Prince William has an "as he is known in Scotland" title too, but I can't remember what it is. As he supports England teams (as he is entitled to do) he may not remember what his "Scottish" title is either

I don't think Princess Anne has a Scottish title, but she never fails to turn up to support the Scottish Rugby team at international matches. And she re-married under the auspices of the Scottish Kirk which Charles and Camilla could have done but didn't.

Maybe she just enjoys rugby anno after all her son in law is a famous player.

Peter Phillips is/was a keen rugby player.
