Eugenie moving into Kensington Palace

I still have the pound in my pocket, but have not needed to wear the mac with the pocket as the weather is good at the moment, and I haven't come across a homeless person yet, sorry.
I did want to contribute it as an extra £1 to the small charity I support for refugees (very homeless indeed, not even in their own country), but anniebach said no, I think a homeless person in the street as far as I recall.

Yes a homeless person Jalima, it's my little protest against a family with too many homes but no regard for all those sleeping in the streets

I don't mind the royals in the top ranks but i don't like the lesser royals intheir silly frocks and fergie looking like a scruff bag and there is something about Andrew and his lot that is very unappealing .irritating and unnecessary in my view

Just to say don't be so fixated on information on Wikipedia. Its own disclaimer states, information on Wikipedia is contributed by anyone who wants to post material, and the expertise of the posters is not taken into consideration. It can in fact be used by people who delibertely post misinformation.

Some information on Wikipedia may well be accurate, but because entries are not reviewed by experts it's only really useful for familiarising yourself with basic information.

Oh, this really bugs me - I am a Republican and object to Royalty anyway - no of course she shouldn't go and live in Kensington Palace at our expense - what fools we are to allow all this - they've plenty of money and the Queen should do what we all do - help with the deposit to buy a place of their own - simple!!

I know the argument about the revenue the Royal family brings in always comes up in these discussions, but I would very much like to see a balance sheet.

For your information, the 'evidence' is out there if you search the history books and can follow a family tree.
There was also an extremely interesting BBC programme where the family line was traced to the previous Earl in Australia.

However, they would probably have remained Roman Catholics or had their heads chopped off for other spurious reasons, so HM has no need to worry.

No, I posted wikipedia links, too. I am aware that it is not the most reliable source of information but it had a lot of stuff collected in one place.

I think the govt. document I linked to should be perfectly reliable, though. Which did confirm much of what was in the wiki links.

My state pension is classed as 'a benefit' even though I wrote a letter of protest to the then Pensions Secretary saying that I had jolly well earned it.

Of course they work hard. I've heard that Camilla and Charles are like many GPs looking after George and Charlotte while William and Kate go back to full time employment. Meantime Harry is taking good care of his GGF Philip and making sure Queenie is properly looked after. Not to mention the work in charity shops being undertaken by Andrew and his daughters. (Unfortunately the shop had to refuse the outfits they donated on the grounds that no one else would ever wear them!)

Perhaps now is the time to do a bit of weeding out of the 'Royals'. Breeding has gone well so only protection etc for the core family now, the Queen and husband, Charles and wife, Prince William and Harry, plus their children. All the lesser relations to look after themselves now we have plenty, or be paid by the jobs carried out on the Royal firms behalf. Those that are now too infirm to work tally up the jobs and duties they did in the past and that would be their pension credits. Fair we are apparently all in this together.

Difficult, Alexandra and Katherine Kent did a lot of public duties , far more than the young ones do now

I am a Royalist but do agree that Andrew & his Daughters are very pretentious. Princess Anne chose not to have titles for her children & they've turned out pretty well. Prince Charles as heir to the throne had no choice although both William & Harry used the surname Wales during their Army career & William uses Wales when working for Air Ambulance.

Regarding "grace & favour" property what about the properties available to Prime Minister etc, how much does their security cost? Why are we still paying for security for Tony Blair?

Others have mention the Duchy of Cornwall but not the fact that the Queen receives income from the Duchy of Lancaster which is held in Trust for the Monarch - I would need to research the amount paid to the Government & the amount returned to the Queen but I believe the cost to each person in the UK is approx 60p
