I had to get DH to the Churchill in Oxford today for a heart CT scan as there is a possibility of rest tempting the procedure they had to abandon back in aJune.
For any who do not know it, the Churchill is one of the leading cancer hospitals in the country and what a lovely place it is too. A calm and peaceful atmosphere, wide immaculate corridors, lovely artwork , super friendly staff everywhere you turn, no waiting, a lovely coffee shop with plenty of comfy seating and (wait for it) a baby grand in the corner bearing the invitation "Play me!" How I wish I had persevered with my lessons all those years ago 
. It is there for patients, visitors, staff, whoever and you can imagine what a pleasant atmosphere it would create.
I got the feeling of a truly holistic approach to cancer care as well as the benefits of cutting edge technology and research. DH doesn't have cancer, his heart procedure will be at the John Radcliffe, but the clearly they share some facilities.
Back from grandparent duties in need of a months rest 
and happy to report in my absence there is much progress here. There is not only a tunnel but also light in it! Few weeks yet until it will all be done but the major, messy, part is nearly there. No roof so hoping for a dry night [ need a crossed fingers emoticon].
So pleased you had such a good weekend soop, such happy images, thank you for sharing them. Have had experience of the Churchill with my Dad daphne, no one wants to have a cancer but if there is cancer it's a very good place to be treated. Also had surgery at John Radcliffe, fairly minor in the scheme of things, couldn't fault the expertise of the surgeon and care from the consultant anaesthetist (I have an allergy to regularly used substances) also first class aftercare as an outpatient and hope your husband will have as positive an experience.
Time for a glass of wine, so off now while I am almost coherent .
I am just back from holiday at tea time on Sunday and went over to see the DGS's today.
I went up to see DGS2 (18 mnths) as his mum was trying to wake him up after his afternoon nap.
This very angelic looking little one had been stuffing the crusts of his bread down the front of his top. He is really a great mischief when he is awake.

Had a marvellous weekend birthday and have spent yesterday tidying and cleaning as of course sods law predicts we had a couple come to view the house yesterday afternoon ( and our last guests only left in the morning !!)
Lots of catching up to do here and posts to read so I will be back once I have read them all through.

Sadly, Corner the rain dance did work and the party day was quite rubbish weather wise...however in the my family didn't give a stuff and the paddling pool saw some unexpected visitors anyway!! Didn't help keeping my lovely pale grey carpet pristine though and poor old Grampy had to clean it on Monday morning !!

We had a viewing yesterday and an open house planned for the 24th and these guys do seem more proactive but I have mellowed over the whole process Charlie , what will be will be .
The house is now SO tidy , Grampy and I are taking a week off of cleaning

We let our hair down when its just us and time with them is precious as they are far flung. A perfect party for me includes everyone from infants to Grandmas ( and I'm that one now ) .

Nice one, Elegran! I am reminded of an item on the Today programme about 50 years ago when Brian Redhead was interviewing a couple who had several children who shared the same birthday in April. Their explanation? 'We always celebrate my husband's birthday in July'.
Love the photos n&g, wonderful, happy day. Everyone looks so relaxed. Guess fhere has to be water at a beach?? Pleased the carpet survived. Your home will sell, you only need one person who wants it, viewings are happening now. There surely can't be a tidier home anywhere .
No more rain dance comments, please. I rue the day I made the, kindly meant, offer. We are in the thunderstorm belt and currently have 19 sq mtrs open to the sky with a couple of inches of water on the floor. If anyone needs some rain they are so welcome to ours. Our lovely installer is pressing on in his wellies! No roof until tomorrow apparently. Trying to keep smiling. 
Lovely photo nellie, he does look angelic. Maybe he doesn't want curly hair? Had the day with one of ours yesterday while Mum was at work (10 hours). Loved it but oh so tired afterwards, usually Mr C helps out too but he was minding things here.
Raining again, may just hide under the duvet until tomorrow.
The sun is shining and there is a cooling breeze. Home from visiting the ladies in Campbeltown. I took a couple of photos of my sons to share around the group. Everyone was interested in the family gathering, which was nice.
DaphneB If only all hospitals were as pleasant as the Churchill in Oxford. It makes a huge difference to walk into attractive, beautifully maintained surroundings. MacSporran would almost certainly play the grand piano. As a student, long ago, he earned beer money playing the piano in a busy public house. He'd start with a few bars of Beethoven...and then, without warning, he would switch to Ragtime.
cornergran My late father had an aortic repair in the John Radcliffe. Sadly, he suffered a stroke not long after the surgical procedure. He died from subsequent complications.
Well done. You deserve a treat as a reward for grandparenting duties.
Nelliem Your grandson is truly beautiful. Watching a young child sleeping is something special. Once awake...it's full steam ahead.

Our grandchildren were saying that they look forward to inheriting our vast collection of photo albums in due course - (not just yet, mind)

MacSporran and I have been included in (what was for us) the first ever "selfie"...taken by our granddaughter's Dutch husband-to-be. A few family members turned the corner before the pic was taken. I wish that we had all been together.
