Just for the month of August several of my classes and groups are not running. I've still got my 2 volunteer sessions and Aquafit but DH is working, Book 2 is with the publishers and suddenly I've got hours in my day to fill. Any ideas for what I could be doing to fill 'the unforgiving moment' Grans? Otherwise I fear I'll slump into a reading/TV fest.

Sounds quite an attractive prospect (if there was anything to watch on TV, so better stick with the reading!)

Do you have a garden? Maybe visit some nearby gardens for inspiration?

Ana Mon 01-Aug-16 11:53:39

Make a start on book 3? grin

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 12:03:46

We have a lovely garden but its s communal one with lots of really good gardeners competing with each other - I wouldn't dare try anything.
Book 3 feels a long way off. I bet I'll have lots of 'corrections' for book 2 -just like school!!

Nothing wrong with a reading fest Jane10 or taking time to relax. Enjoy some 'me' time and have your hair done or some spa treatments. Remember in this world full of care, we need to take time to stand and stare. Go walking, visit local beauty spots. So many things to enjoy all around us.

Nelliemoser Mon 01-Aug-16 13:33:53

Come and me help dig my garden?

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 13:39:22

OK -I'm on my virtual way. smile

Definitely take a walk round your local area we sometimes forget to just enjoy the space around us. I just took a brisk walk and feel energised by it and have the energy to tackle the Ivy that's taking over the fence. grin

Use your bus pass and go somewhere and explore. Even if it is the next town it will do you good and stimulate your brain. Have fun.

Volunteer to walk an old person's dog

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 14:46:38

I'd love to dog walk. Trouble is I don't know any dog owners any more. I always try to speak to passing dogs when I'm out -I must have terrified so many of them and disconcerted their owners! Drat.

ninathenana Mon 01-Aug-16 14:50:11

We're not all entitled to a bus pass careof

ninathenana Mon 01-Aug-16 14:51:50

Your local Age Uk may know of someone who would be grateful for a dog walker Jane10

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 14:59:44

Good idea nina smile. Or I could have a virtual walk with a Husky or a long haired Alsatian or a Dachshund or a Corgi. So many favourites!

Jalima Mon 01-Aug-16 15:11:44

Make sure if you use a bus pass to the next town that there is a bus coming back again.

Cherrytree59 Mon 01-Aug-16 15:14:50

Jane please tell me about your first book and where I can get it
I'm having an OP mid sept and I will be doing a bit of a 'reading fest', as will not be able to gad about much for two weeks!
As regards something for you to do.
Would agree with getting out for a brisk walk everyday (envy something that I miss at the moment)
Have you any old Photos that need sorting out or going on the computer/Ipad?

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 15:27:56

cherrytree I cant be advertising on GN I'm afraid! Jalima that is vg advice re buses. What a disaster it would be if there wasn't a return bus! I will def be hitting the road with my trusty bus pass though.

ninathenana Mon 01-Aug-16 16:05:13

Why don't you pm Cherrytree with the details smile

GrandmaMoira Mon 01-Aug-16 17:00:37

If you live within easy distance of London or the coast, or any other beauty spots, you can have plenty of days out. Do you need to do any decorating or decluttering?

Gracesgran Mon 01-Aug-16 17:06:36

Interesting thread Jane10. So many things stop during the summer so why not start a summer class or group of your own smile. I bet you are not the only one thinking about this. If you could do it from home - 2 to 4 people perhaps you would not need to be taken over by it. Summer reading group or summer craft group perhaps?

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 17:48:50

Gosh that's an interesting idea gracesgran. It might be too late to organise this year but, as this is the first time this has happened to me, forewarned is forearmed. I'll remember it for next year.
I'm doing a turn at the festival fringe (just a wee 15 minute spot at a writers event).I'll need to do some preparation for that but it won't take long.

Jalima Mon 01-Aug-16 20:27:23

It has poured with rain this afternoon.
We did go out for an appointment this morning but, apart from some washing and some cooking, I have done sweet fanny adams.
Must buck up tomorrow.

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 20:58:23

I didn't do much either. Full day tomorrow though -AS group in the morning then afternoon out with DD and DGSs. Going to do something cultural then tea and cakes!

Jalima Mon 01-Aug-16 20:59:05

That is doing something!
