I could never understand liberty bodices. What on earth were they for? I wore them when I was a small girl , and if I remember rightly there were some buttons on them, so I presume you must have been able to attach something to them but I don't know what.,

The buttons were for suspwnders and they replaced corsets/stays I think - hence'liberty'

Gas masks, air raid shelters, identity cards. Air raid sirens, blackout curtains, the odd bomb or two, queues for everything which women joined without knowing what they were queueing for. Thank goodness some things are gone.

School hats - ours were horrible. As for gymslips having to be worn above the knee, that would've seriously annoyed my mother! They were bought several sizes too big so we could grow into them and in school we had to kneel down to prove that they touched the floor. We'd be sent home if they were too short. It was mini-skirt era.

My granny used to drink Sanatogen tonic wine whatever that was. She used to send me to the shops.for.Kensitas cigarettes at about 10!!!!! Then Number 6 . She drank tea without milk and.sugar because of rationing habits. She rubbed her corns/ unions with a match box and used an odd cream called Zambuck with a funny smell.
