Homesick

LOL, looked at some of the Woods Coaches destinations, Southwold, Clacton etc are on our doorstep, but some look interesting.

LOL remind me of the days we used to holiday in Frinton when the kids were little.

But do keep Woods coaches in mind for another visit. You can ask them to send you brochures on their website.

I always feel when I am away on holiday that there is a big piece of elastic tugging me home. I do love holidays but find two weeks away too much. We are going away for 11 days soon - I hope that will be better for me.

The 4 day breaks to Warners Hotels suit me perfectly.

Just wish I had the chance of a holiday! ? No homesickness for me.

So empathise judthepud2 it is 4 years since we had a holiday. I live amongst friends and neighbours who do long haul as normal . But I can't criticise as they have earned their holidays and can't help our situation where holidays do not figure. However it does not stop my total envy and feeling hard done by,

Oh dear ann and jud, I dislike long trips away but would struggle without a couple of short trips in the UK. Wish you two, and anyone else tied to home, could have fhe break you deserve. It's hard not to have the choice.

I`m never homesick on holiday, on the contrary, I never want to go home. Daughter number 2 never goes away for more than a week because she gets homesick, strange girl, doesn`t get it from me!

The only time I have ever been homesick was when I was 11 and went on a Girl Guide camp to Anglesey.
It was horrible, from the rain and wind, to the food which tasted of smoke, to being put in a tent with one other girl who I didn't like, when everyone else was in tents with 5 or 6 others and appeared to be having a great time.
Occasionally when we lived in Hongkong I would miss the English landscape and weather.
Now if I'm away for longish periods 2 -3 months I just sort of adapt, and by the end of the break I look forward to coming home.
I'd be homesick though if I was permanently exiled, I think.

I admit that I sometimes miss my friends and extended family in the UK, but I don't miss London where I lived for nearly 60 years. We then moved to the North-east of England and although I really enjoyed life in a small town, we weren't there long enough for me to put down roots. I have now been living on the other side of the world for a little over three years and my life in England seems not just far away in miles, but also in time. Perhaps I am so often on granny duty nowadays, I haven't got time to brood and feel homesick.

I have a piece of elastic which pulls at me to stay home, that the place can't manage with no one there, - until we're about an hours drive away, and then it snaps and I'm free!

However, I do find that I have to keep travelling. If we stay in one place for more than a week I start to pull the odd weed up, re-arrange the furniture, settle in.

After about a week I start to miss my garden (although not in winter as it's asleep then). I still wonder how the garden is fairing at our old house and miss our little bit of woodland terribly. I knew all those trees personally. We moved nearly ten years ago!

But homesick? Not really.

I like a break but am more than happy to go home. I have never stayed in any holiday rental that is as good as my own home so unless I am going to a 5* hotel, I am not that bothered.

Did I mention being bored ? GC have returned from holiday after too many late nights, too much junk food. WW3 has broken out, how long before all that sugar and E numbers pass through their systems.

I left school at 15 and went into the merchant navy, by the time I was 22 I was very homesick, so I left and within 8 months I met my OH being together ever since, and never been homesick after that, maybe it's because I travel with the things that matter, OH, credit cards, store cards, AA membership.
