Homesick

Never been away long enough to get homesick. In fact I dread going home to the laundry, grass cutting etc.

Pitcity, go and have a coffee at "The Lock" in Heybridge basin for me.

I get twitchy after a week and we once drove round Europe with the kids in tow for 3 weeks and I couldn't work out whether I was fed up with being in a car with 5 kids or because I wanted to get home.

I don't get homesick except for missing the people I'm close to. Being away from home usually means being somewhere interesting and I'm able to just live in the day.

I'm always happy being home again when the time comes though.

Wherever I hang my hat comes to mind.

I do as I ve got older didn't notice it when I was young recently had a three week away and although I was loving where I was and the people I was with I couldn't wait to get back to my familiar routine and place I do think it's an age thing

I am always happy returning home to my 'comfort zone' but it only lasts a few days before I want to get up and go. Having experienced severe home sickness as a child when packed off to boarding school, nothing comes near it these days. I get homesick for people. Living alone, which I hate, does have a 'homesicky' feeling which is probably why I don't stay put for too long....

It's taken a while, but I no longer get homesick for the UK. Rather like baubles though, I miss the people I'm close to. Home is wherever the people I love, live.

I do miss people but never places .

Comes from being a navy brat and then in the army , I've lost count of the number of places I've lived .

What I do often miss , especially on long holidays are my favourite pillows on the bed and our little dog if we're overseas ! But I Skype the dog !! So problem solved .

I just love travelling and never get homesick when away - but yes after about 3 weeks- I am really happy to be home again- home being here or in the UK- as they are both places we call home and feel at home.

If I'm with H and on holiday then I could happily be away for weeks.
The only time I remember being homesick is when staying at D for 2wks dog sitting. I was bored most of the time and not knowing the area and dog too big for my car limited what I could do.

That's my problem been cat sitting in Leicester for a week, and another 5 days to go, bored. Would have so much to do if we were at home.
When I was working, I had to spend 6 weeks in Asia Pacific, became really homesick after a couple of weeks (pre internet and Skype, even a phone call cost a fortune.)

I too get homesick so we never go away for more than one week at a time, unless we are with the grandchildren.

Our youngest GS who is 3 loves his home so much and would happily stay there all the time. He does though enjoy a trip to the Garden Centre.

His Mum was trying to get him to pre School and take his brother to school. He would not put on his shoes and in exasperation she said she was going and closed the front door, she waited a couple of minutes expecting him to be begging to come but when she opened the door she saw he had put his shoes in the shoe rack and was kneeling on the sofa looking out of the front window waiting to wave them off !!

His Dad was working in the back garden, so he wasn't completely abandoned.

I want to come home after a week! DH likes 2 or even 3 weeks......eeeek.

GandTea there is so much to visit around Leicester- I am surprised you are bored. Have you been to Swithland and Bradgate Park, driven over to Launde Abbey and Oakham, Uppingham and to Rutland Water for an osprey cruise- and on to Stamford and Burleigh House. Been to Barndale Gardens? To the cattle market in Melton? Tootled to Market Harborough for lunch and a bit of shopping- adn a walk and pub lunch at the amazing Foxton Locks on the 2 canals. And so so much more. Surely even if you are cat sitting, you don't have to sit on them all day long? You could even take a whole day to go to Norfolk- or see Peterborough Cathedral, or Lincoln? Visit the wonderful Rockingham Castle and gardens, Kelmarsh Hall, or Cotton Manor Gardens. And so much more ... no time to be bored, truly.

I've never call it homesickness but I do feel a bit anxious after a week away to get home 10 days is about my limit for away time.. silly isn't it as you only get home to washing ironing, cooking and grass cutting..

Botanical Gardens in Oadby are great too.

I know you are homesick rather than bored- but going out to do and see amazing things can really take the edge away from homesickness.

Trouble is we are without a car, which is why we are stuck.

I don't get homesick but whenever I am away whether for just a week or for several months I am never sorry to come home. I often meet people on holiday who say things like they want to stay, I never do. I love my holidays and always enjoy them but home is home.

I don't get it as bad as I did years ago where it would almost physically hurt, I have actually cried with it.
What happens now is that I miss the sea so much. When we go on a long trip into Europe I'm always aware of how far I am from the sea.

Arghh what a shame GandTea- couldn't you hire a little car to tootle around. Otherwise- get the list of trips run by Woods Coaches - they leave from your side of Leicester- and have coach trips to fantatic locations everyday- used to often go with friends.

I never want to be away for more than a week -I do love my home, my garden and routine- goodness I do sound boring promise I'm not (smile)

Grandchildren have arrived back from holiday now, so busy entertaining them. We will be back again in 2 weeks to look after GS, hopefully we will be able to visit some of the places you have mentioned. WE have been to some of them, but there were some new ones. We are often up here, just hadn't planned for this visit.
