Are you middle class?

...And what makes you middle class? I was browsing through over on The Other Side, and they've got a similar thread.

I don't know when I think about myself. I think it's harder to define what middle/working class is nowadays. Most people own homes (with a mortgage), have had university education etc.

Oh dear ab.
Your irony-detecting system must be switched off.

""""""This whole thread is a load of cobblers! """""

Anniebach I understood Anya's comment to be humourous - tonue in cheek smile

Bellanonna Sat 16-Apr-16 17:27:50

Tend to agree with Anya. It's all a load of bollocks. Why ever do we feel we have to classify ourselves for goodness sake, i am just me, whatever that might mean.

Anya Sat 16-Apr-16 17:28:54

Ewe by gum Coolgran tha's got it one!

Now where's me bicycle clips?

Maggiemaybe Sat 16-Apr-16 17:34:23

You mean I'm not really a new affluent worker, youthful, thrusting and cultured?

Damn.

Anya Sat 16-Apr-16 17:37:07

grin

NanKate Sat 16-Apr-16 17:42:35

Thanks Anya for putting the record straight for me.

With the flat cap, clogs and whippet, could we add a pigeon loft (much loved by the late Queen Mum), drinking tea out of a saucer and wearing a vest and braces in the hot weather. grin

Marmark1 Sat 16-Apr-16 18:24:54

Yep,snobbery very much in evidence here, bless em,

Ana Sat 16-Apr-16 18:26:05

And so are chips! grin

I was brought up very working class. With a Grammar school education for H and me and professional qualifications for us both especially H who really achieved a high position I am now very pleased that we have achieved a living standard and way of life that we strived for. I see absolutely nothing wrong or need to apologize for that.

Anniebach Sat 16-Apr-16 19:09:23

Why in earth do you think apologies are expected annsixty?

annsixty Sat 16-Apr-16 19:16:48

Because of previous posts.

Dara Sat 16-Apr-16 19:42:51

Don't really know!

Anniebach Sat 16-Apr-16 20:06:12

I have't read one post where an apology is asked for, baffling

annsixty Sat 16-Apr-16 20:21:18

Whatever.

annsixty Sat 16-Apr-16 20:22:52

Sorry for that. I am not usually out of order.

Jalima Sat 16-Apr-16 20:25:07

Eee, wot's up me duck?
Dinna fash yerself

Apparently I am 'Established Middle Class'
What a hoot!

Ana Sat 16-Apr-16 20:28:41

Why are some people bristling when we all seem to be agreed the 'quiz' is a load of rubbish? confused

Jalima Sat 16-Apr-16 20:35:32

wot - are you insinuating that I am not Established Middle Class?

Jalima Sat 16-Apr-16 20:36:02

I do mean Ana and not wot of course

Ana Sat 16-Apr-16 20:40:27

Eh? I didn't think you were bristling, Jalima! grin

I'm insinuating nothing...for the record, I am technical middle class according to the quiz, which is apparently a 'new group' so goodness knows what I was before...

Jalima Sat 16-Apr-16 21:53:00

Tee hee, no I'm not bristling

What is 'technical middle class'
Does it mean you can help me with my computer when I have problems?

Deedaa Sat 16-Apr-16 22:46:39

Apparently I'm Traditional Working Class. I can't help feeling that the result has been worked out mainly on financial grounds as being retired we only have our pensions and the house isn't worth a great deal. But does the traditional working class even exist now? People travel, many more are going to university now, nobody spends their life doing exactly what their parents and grandparents did.

Jalima Sat 16-Apr-16 23:35:16

If you work, you're working class imo.

I don't work because I am retired.
So I must have moved up the social scale grin

Anniebach Sun 17-Apr-16 09:38:25

Depends what you consider traditional working class Deedaa.
