Are you middle class?

I'm not sleeping rough and I'm not super rich, so I guess that puts me somewhere in the middle.

Well what exactly are the criteria these days ?

If you have to ask, you are not!

No - working class or as DH says a Champagne Socialist.

If you google" define middle class" there is a Q and A which will give you a score and a class ! you may be surprised by the result as it seems to be about the activities you are involved in and the people you mix with . I am working class .

I think there are subtle differences. Like the size of your TV. What programmes you watch. What radio stations you tune into. The paper you read.

When I was working for market research our house hold was classed as 'Working class' as H was not in charge of anyone at work. Their criteria was all about the major breadwinners job.
If I really had to declare myself anything it would be lower middle class as we live quiet comfortably and have savings, know which piece of cutlery to use, have good manners etc.
However, do we really care these days?

I Have savings , have good manners , go to the Opera , own my own home and also know which cutlery to use but am Working class . I don`t think people who are working class have bad manners and don`t know which cutlery to use lol .

Apparently I am traditional working class. There are now 7 British classes.

Thanks Shysal I have done the test and I am 'Established Middle Class'. I was hoping they would not ask what newspaper I read, as I would have been immediately downgraded Yes you've got it the DM, with occasionally the 40p version of the Independent.

So much of it goes on income in most of the "quizzes" I have seen. I don't think I have a hope as I am statistically poor - but that's another area for a different debate

Many people in this group live in old manufacturing centres of the UK in the Midlands and North West^

Pretty accurate, apart from the fact that youthful might be a tad flattering, and I specifically said no to watching sport and yes to listening to classical music and going to the theatre.

Oh, and I'm not a worker (not now, anyway)

Interesting thread. I spent a lot of my childhood on a council estate and at my school that was considered to be working class.

I started off as lower middle and now I think I'm lower middle again.
