I was inclined to disagree with you Anya when I first read your post. That was before I read the thread on treats and rewards and felt my energy being drained away. Having said that, what I find most negative about GN is the posters who come into a nicely positive and heartwarming thread like the poetry one and post a negative comment. Not sure why they need to do this and it makes me feel grumpy. Life is too short so I now skip over these contributions. ?

You are certainly right about that Anya at the moment negativity about the country (UK) also the world in general ( oh! it's all going to hell in a handcart.) reminds me of my Grandparents and the gloomy things they used to say.

Even ailments can be positive if you consider the alternative!!

Now I wonder what happened to reasoned debate? What happened to reading a post before responding accurately? If you do that there is a fair chance you will respond to what was actually said instead of your interpretation of it.

Am I right in thinking some people have 'followers' who take everything they say at face value?

I used to think that our generation would not turn into the grumpy old people some of our elderly relatives turned into but now I am rather worried we will.

I agree with Anya and have noticed that the doom and gloom/grumpy threads get loads of replies - sometimes stretching into pages whereas anything light hearted will often disappear off the bottom of the active page after just a few posts.

DH can grump for Britain so I come on here for a laugh

So glad to read your post anya. I had thought of doing the same myself, but as a relative newby and already having been attacked very nastily for what I thought was a light-hearted comment, I've learnt to keep away from anything the least bit controversial.

It does seem to me that almost all threads seem to be dragged down to a level of grey despondancy. Either that or there are disparaging comments made about other people's contributions, usually without any obvious reason other than they got out of the wrong side of the bed!

I had intended to start a new thread today concerning something that really incensed me yesterday regarding the NHS, but it did make me look curmudgeonly so I will fume to myself.
