Breakfast news this morning has raised the question of when it might be reasonable - if at all - to leave children on their own. Apparently there are no set guidelines, but the suggestion is that chidren younger than 12 should not be left for very much time and children under 16 should not be left overnight.
It got me to thinking about my children. I don't think I ever left any of them alone before they were 12, and the eldest was 14 before I left her 'in charge' for brief periods i.e. if I popped out next door / down to very local shops. But then I was not at work ... and /I am a worry guts!
I never left mine outside shops on their own, but they were allowed to do local errands and go to a nearby park as they got older.
In the absence of guidelines, what do you think is reasonable?
don't have a problem with under 16's having free bus travel,BUT

Daughter not allowed to know new baby’s name until she visits him
