What do you call your vulva?

On the back of the washing thread, I was just wondering what you call your vulva? It seems such an unattractive word to me, so I call mine fufu. Daft I know but there you are. My friend calls hers her lulu. My granddaughter calls hers front bottom. How about you?

Galen grin
Sadiesnan - funny you should ask that - my friend and I were out walking the dogs on Sunday and our foster male showed an unusual interest in her black lab's rear end. So I said she must be coming on heat.
She asked "how can you tell?" I said I would look it up and next day explained about changes in the vulva, a word I know but rarely use. Like me, she's shy about this things, I had a very prudish upbringing.

I've never found the need to refer to my 'Minnie' as my vulva ! grin . My DGD uses the same word and we all know what she means.

I don't find the need to refer to it, I would use the anatomical name if I needed to consult a doctor about a matter pertaining to it though. When I take my 6 year old granddaughter swimming and she is drying herself I tend to tell her to dry thoroughly around her bottom area rather than use a euphemism which I don't really like. I don't think she is aware of the word vulva.

Agreed with vulva. Otherwise "bits" with DGDs for convenience, and various fairly rude words depending on to whom I am talking.

Nether region! Not to the doctor, obviously!

TendringGran Wed 27-Jan-16 18:35:19

Have never felt the need to call it anything. Rarely comes up in conversation for me.

ShowerGel Wed 27-Jan-16 18:55:11

I know Germaine Greer would like women to reclaim the C-word to describe their anatomy but who would want to?

I associate fanny with the Americanism, except that refers to your backside, as in 'sitting on your fanny all day'.

I quite like bejazzle, I know this refers to bling applied to that area but that doesn't matter; who's going to see?

As a former nurse though, I use 'vaginal area' or, as my young daughter once tried to pronounce it 'ba-gina'.

Never used vulva, I first read the OP as uvula, which is in the opposite direction grin

I call it my privit as in hedge and it's private

Nelliemoser Wed 27-Jan-16 19:23:08

Good grief what has GN come to!

granjura Wed 27-Jan-16 19:35:22

annsixty, I was going to say the same ;) why on earth would I mention it to a sexual partner, really? lol

Marmight Wed 27-Jan-16 19:36:06

Undercarriage, although I don't often feel the need to talk about it to anyone!

Deedaa Wed 27-Jan-16 19:50:01

Humphrey sounds like a good name, but I've never felt the need to call it anything.

Penstemmon Wed 27-Jan-16 20:24:56

If a group of women cannot talk about their bodies I think that that is a sad situation! I do not find it strange at all. I believe it is mature and healthy to be more matter of fact when talking about our bodies (& I do not mean in Costa over a coffee) but just when pertinent.

Have to say some of these comments have made me laugh and am just hoping my husband doesn't ask what's so funny grin Having lived in an all male household I've never talked about it and don't have any friends to talk to about such things. I guess if I had to talk to a doctor about the specific area I'd say vagina - my mum had a vaginal prolapse so I did talk to her hospital doctor about that when I used to take her for her appointments.

grannyactivist Wed 27-Jan-16 21:18:17

Oh thank you gransnetters for giving me a reason to laugh out loud. Mum's washing machine has just died on me and I very nearly burst into tears. (Read this if you want the full saga.) Instead I sat down and logged on to GN and read this....cue hysterical laughter and a rather bemused mother wondering what on earth is going on!
I really do like being a gransnetter!! grin

M0nica Wed 27-Jan-16 22:09:12

I am either specific about the part - bladder, vagina etc or I refer to it as the 'genital area'. The language of intimacy is something else entirely.

I must admit that, like many others, outside the consulting room or the bedroom, these are not areas I have ever felt a need to mention in general conversation. Should the need arise though it wouldn't bother me and I would use the anatomical terms I have mentioned above.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 27-Jan-16 23:50:16

For the life of me I couldn't think what I'd used when talking to my GP, but then M0nica posted and I remembered it was genital area. I'm not sure if I've ever had the need to use the word vulva, although I have used the phrase 'my bits' in conversation.

Years ago I was sharing a room with a friend who was talking about putting talc on her thruppeny bit (sp?) after her bath and she got quite exasperated with me when I hadn't got a clue what she was on about! grin

Marelli Thu 28-Jan-16 00:01:54

My late mother-in-law boastfully described her (well-off) other son's new car as an 'absolutely beautiful, enormous, bright-red vulva'. We had a clapped-out Vauxhall Viva..... grin
She did have a way with words, though. She'd also been having treatment for a vaginal prolapse (blamed it on the birthing of the large, other son). She pronounced that area as her VAGGINNA (sic).

rubylady Thu 28-Jan-16 01:52:37

Eric.

sherish Thu 28-Jan-16 08:01:50

If at the doctor or hospital by it's proper name. Otherwise I don't talk about it either, I don't have a need to.

What I wonder is why on earth are you interested in this? It has never crossed my mind what names other people use.

Marmark1 Thu 28-Jan-16 09:15:51

Sorry, again,Am I that much different to everyone else here.
What on earth are you asking that for?

Rhonab Thu 28-Jan-16 10:18:17

Nether regions covers it for me! Front bottom if I'm referring to DGD's nethers. ?

81280rosalie Thu 28-Jan-16 10:49:36

My children used to call it vagina ..school sex lessons?...when nanny died of angina ....they were very confused !!

2old4hotpants Thu 28-Jan-16 11:02:27

Did you hear about the old girl who told her ardent and hard of hearing elderly suitor " I've got acute angina"?

Luckygirl Thu 28-Jan-16 11:23:09

When I went out in the evenings my gran used to tell me to "keep yer 'and on yer 'halfpenny!" - I don't think she was exhorting me to save my money!! grin
