Our DD has a 22 mths old gorgeous girl. Our first Grandchild. She is expecting another in July. I can't describe how I feel. I struggle to feel excited. I can't imagine loving another grandchild like I do our first one. That is why we only had one child. Please help. This makes me feel so sad ???

I felt just the same but GS2 has turned out to be so gorgeous! It took me a whilr to get to know him because I didn't look after him till he was a year old and I'd had GS1 from the age of 6 months, but he is just irresistable. Even DH, who doesn't care for small children at all, is very fond of him. GS3 is also very sweet, although quite different from his cousins. I really couldn't say that I love one better than the others because they've each got different qualities and they're each perfect in their own way.

Each of the grandchildren are special, each different but loved equally.
Sit back and enjoy them all.

Indinana, I wept quietly inside for worry about loving the second AND for my own selfishness when I was pregnant with my second child. I felt that my poor little first-born was about to have her whole world turned upside down because her father and I had been "greedy" enough to want more children. When the baby was born, my daughter saw him as "hers" and loved him to distraction (and so did I). I felt very humble.

I now make a point of telling this to my children and friends' children when they are pregnant with the second child. Almost all have said they felt like this and hadn't told anyone. I think it's a relief to know we can all love ALL our children, and given time (and contact) we will love all our grandchildren too.

My first grandchild was actually a step grand-daulghter - but I was hands on from the very start and she became very dear to me. I now have 2 more beautiful blood grand daughters whom I love dearly - but the one I practiced on at being a Granny for the first time will always be just that little bit special. From her I first learned the amazing joy at being a grand mother and the pleasures it could bring.

Indinana is absolutely right. I have three grandchildren and I adore all of them. I would like more but don't think it will happen. Be thankful, there are those who would love grandchildren but for whatever reason have not got any.

I was a late Nanna, thinking it wasn't to be. Our GD came along at 31 weeks and was so tiny and vulnerable. We looked after her from 6months old and loved ever second. When she was 3 her little brother was born and I too wondered how I could love so intensely again but I did. I love my two GC so much, they are totally different little characters but equally have a piece of my heart.

I have 3 DGC, two boys followed by a girl. I love them all to bits in equal measures but the one that pulls at my heart strings is the middle one. He always has hand me downs- clothes, toys, bikes etc. I am determined he is going to get his own new bike for his next birthday in two weeks time. He is also a bit of a rebel and lives in his own world so gives us great amusement at times. Enjoy them all - they grow up so quickly.

I worried having my own second child, but love them equally.
I also have a second GC due in a few weeks too, and because of how I feel about my own children I feel I shall feel the same about the new baby. My only fear is not being able to give it the same amount of attention as I did with first GC!

I have just one grandchild;he is adorable and he was adopted.

I would say, love, love, love all your grandchildren with all your might so their lives are full of your love.

My second Grandson was born yesterday evening and I won't see him until this afternoon. My heart is already bursting with love for him. If he brings me as much joy as DGS1 then I'm a lucky lucky lady.

How lovely ginny. Enjoy those first precious cuddles.

I totally agree with that. Our first grandson arrived and I fell in love all over again. I played with him as I never played with my own children and the bond between us became very strong. When grandson number two arrived I felt differently towards him yet loved him so much all the same. It is a very special relationship one has with ones grandchildren - if you're lucky!

Too true Ann4 but of course, 'little bit special' doesn't mean 'little more loved'. We have eight grandchildren, all of which are loved to smithereens, but nothing replicates that feeling when you take your first grandchild in your arms .......

Call myself Grammargran?? 'All of WHOM are loved ...... '!

Jayney715 don't worry about this. So many people have reassured you that each DGC brings their own love and I so agree. I have 6 and love them all for what they are: special little personalities which hook me in the more I see of them. I had 4 children of my own so was used to sharing that ever expanding pot of love. And I had no choice as I started with twins!

Having said that, DGS1 will always be special. I was at his birth. DD was young and a lone mum. They lived with us for the first 2 years of his life and I have helped raise him for 9 years.

But I have a special relationship with them each of them. And there will still be lots of love for any others that come to join them.
