Cold snap

No thermals and no snow so far , maybe tomorrow and its supposed to be -7 tomorrow night which is COLD for us in the South.. I found my snow shovel under 'stuff' in the garden shed and brought it down the garden outside the back door with my bag of salt in case it gets very icy in the drive. Oh and OH has the heating on low all day now which we haven't had to do at all so far this Winter.. I just turned it down a couple of notches as I just hate having the heating on all the time, he'll probably spot that in a bit and turn it back up

I've just received my gas & electricity statements online. I pay by DD so always check that I'm not too much in credit - all OK as only a couple of pounds overpaid.

Scrolled down further and saw usage for the last quarter compared to the same time last year - gas is down 43% and electricity down 32%.

Hope it doesn't snow tomorrow - I'm working and don't want to be battling against the elements at 07.00 in the dark!

No snow here in Wiltshire (and fervently hoping it stays that way!) and the heavy frost has cleared, it's just grey and cold.
No thermals yet but dug my vest out as a third layer- wasn't enough so now have a throw wrapped around me (trying hard not to succumb to putting the central heating on advance ?)
Have bought a couple of thin polo neck jumpers to layer up with shirts and thicker sweaters if it stays cold, and thermals ready and waiting!

Sunshine and cool rather than cold so far in SE.

No snow, or even frost here in Oxfordshire, a cold clear day, lovely really, although am wearing a thin fleece cardigan for the first time this Winter( it's a very warm one.)

Snow here in Central Scotland. Lovely wintry,sunny, blue sky and the hills look glorious. A welcome change from rain but I don't like the icy pavements too much.

Juts frosty this morning but very bright sunshine and chilly no wind which is ideal for a good brisk walk.

North Kent sunshine ... have been tempted to put heating on, but did some baking and got close to the oven instead - now I have put my chunky dressing gown on and will try to last out until OH gets home at 5 ish.

It's the icy windscreen early in the morning that I hate - have to remember to allow an extra ten when I am at work.

But hey - it is Friday!

No snow yet in my part of Yorkshire, but boy is it cold. I've just been cranking the heating up a notch or two.

My part of Oxfordshire (Vale of White Horse) there was a frost overnight, we are only about 15 miles from Benson, as the crow flies and this often pops up in the news this time of year for registering exceptional low temperatures.

We have a wood burner and when the day time temperature starts around freezing and is unlikely to go a lot higher I light it as the CH goes off at 9.30 and shut doors to stair case and kitchen and it keeps the living room, hall and study very cosy and warm.

We live in an old house and the chimney is a huge brick built affair in the middle of the house. After a few days the whole chimney stack warms through and emits a low level of warmth 24 hours a day like a large storage radiator. Very useful at present because DH has cellulitis and is feeling rough so it he goes to bed during the day, the bedroom is warm.

We live on a hill/cul de sac.
At 6.45 am this morning I was awakened by a continuous scraping sound. Looked out and there was one of my retired neighbours, in his 70s) out with a wide piece of plywood making two clear tracks in the snow for about 40 yards up the street. There is a Council salt/grit bin and our neighbour also threw grit along these tracks and at the entrance of several driveways in front of the car tyres so they'd get a grip.
We have great neighbours.

We haven't had more than a flurry here in Sheffield so far, but we were out walking on Stanage Edge in the Peak District today and there was light snow lying but not a lot. However, looking over toward Edale and the high country where the Pennine Way starts and it all gets a bit wild, it was absolutely white over. The sun was out and it was beautiful, but the ground was frozen solid and all the lying water was frozen, so you had to watch where you put your feet a bit more than is usual. I don't doubt that snow will come our way before too much longer and i am not looking forward to it at all.

Just as the winter should be here in Colchester, cold, crisp and dry. Very sunny today. Needed thick coat, gloves, scarf, hat and sunglasses!
Same forecast for tomorrow.
Just one sleety flurry yesterday. We are very lucky here in the driest part of the country.
We turn the heating off at night because we like a cold bedroom. The disadvantage of this is that we can never sleep in warm hotel rooms!

Not all of Wales has snow.

Please send some snow to Northumberland I so want to make a snowman with DGD, I have lost my snow shovel though to will have to seek another one. I don't mind the cold just need a bit of snow.

No snow on the Fens yet. The woodburner is earning its keep whacking out 12Kw which means we don't have any other heating on at all.

It also heats an Aga kettle for cups of tea and keeps a casserole on the go.

Saves a fortune in electricity as well as keeping us warm.

No snow here, and the DGD were looking forward to building a snowman.

Thermal leggings under trousers and long-sleeved thermal vest under jumper. It's been raining but the temp is now down to zero so there's an unpleasant prospect of ice at my back door in the morning. Brrrrrr
