Cold snap

Our DD reported snow this morning but we didn't have any. She's less than 2 miles from us, but it's higher ground. I just checked on Google maps and found that she is 104m above sea level, whilst we are only 27.5m above. Enough difference for her to get snow and us not!

No snow in our bit of Warwickshire, but there was a heavy frost this morning with beautiful sunshine. Snow was forecast for tonight, but the forecast changed to cold and wet. It's tried hard with wintery showers in between the sunshine. Lovely day.

We never have the heating on at night either.

Today I walked the dogs then went for a ride up on the moors(stunning views) mucked out and filled nets and water although it was very cold I was toasty warm( correct clothing).
Then I came home and had to do a couple of e mails, even though I was in the kitchen next to the aga my hands were cold!! I dislike turning the heating on when I'm out most of the day but hate coming back to a cold house.

Very icy, Wednesday morning.Snow Wednesday night and Thursday it was like Good King Wenceslas, blowing horizontal when taking granddaughter to school, and so cold. Two inches by the time we got home. Even my grandson complained of the cold, and he never does.
Still here today, so has not got any warmer.
Didn't go and visit my mother in law today because getting there would mean deeper snow over the hills. The road to Beamish yesterday was dangerous, as was Stanley and Consett. Fortunately I have winter tyres, Alea, as I have to go to Sunderland this weekend.

I didn't mention winter tyres as we know nobody uses them in the UK.

I don't occupy the whole of Wales Ana

DD phoned from Edinburgh Thursday evening to say she'd left home in the city and it was clear, arrived at the South of city and there was 1" or so of snow on the ground.

Frost in the morning but no snow thank goodness I have to get to work and hate driving in it hope it stays off in my part of South Wales but the one thing you can't control is the weather. Really cold today ( sorry just noticed the time so technically into Saturday) but we had lovely bright sun as well for the first time in ages

One of the (elderly) homeless men I work with refuses to go to the 'sleep safe' accommodation offered for cold weather periods (it's simply a space on a hostel floor surrounded by other homeless men - and possibly a dog or two), so I'm praying he'll be able to stay warm enough whilst sleeping rough for the next couple of days. On Monday I think he can move into proper (albeit temporary) accommodation and will be on his way to having a flat of his own, but I shall be on tenterhooks until then.

Sounds absolutely wonderful jenn! I never got cold mucking out etc - but how do you keep your feet warm riding? Despite thick socks I always had frozen toes and now my DGD has the same affliction.

It's clear and dry here in Norfolk this morning. And no sign of frost yet - I think we're close enough to the coast for the sea to keep the chill back for a while.

And I do hope your homeless gent gets through the weekend ok ga.

We're 177m above sea level and frequently have snow when nearby towns escape it.
I used to wear lag warmers over my jods and boots when riding and it really made a world of difference to my frozen toes NFK. I think the answer is being able to wriggle your toes in your boots too.
I also had a pair of thermal jodhpurs which were wonderfully warm.

At 6.00 this morning the temperature was -5. Just about to light the stove to keep us cosy and warm when the CH turns off.

Groan, I awoke at 4am remembering I had not put the cover on the outside tap, It will be frozen, it connects to my bathroom so I hope it will be ok, I dont fancy a burst pipe.
Still waiting for snow.

Had our first proper frost of the winter in North Somerset we rarely get snow here & I'm so jealous of those of you who have snow - apprently on average we have 2 days on which it snows here per year, & that doesn't mean enough to settle .

I don't do cold. The central heating is on 24hrs. If I wake up at 3 in the morning and want a cup of tea, I don't want to be cold.

Same here Petra. Would rather do without other things than without heating

Everything in the garden is covered in hoar frost and the temp at the back door is -2 and is probably lower out in the garden. There's no great temptation to go out.

I was going to buy stones/gravel today for garden but seeing as it was covered in frost and now snow, it looks like it's been done anyway .

Weed control needs finishing and my DS won't do it in this weather so I bought a piano instead!

Snow has finally arrived here in North Warwickshire - not a lot but everything is covered.

Never heard of a piano helping with weed control! ⊙﹏⊙

Wish I could get to sleep ?

I woke up expecting snow - and there wasn't any. I feel deeply disappointed.

It snowed in London I think early morning. The children were out mid morning throwing snowballs at each other. A good job they did it then because the snow has almost vanished but it is still very cold.

Just the same here in South Warwickshire.
