We can say what we aim to get done, and then come and say if we have actually done it. tchsmile

Today for me, marzipan on cake, and wrap most of my pressies.

Went into town with DGS today. The main purpose was to get his hair cut at the barbers where they sit the children in model cars and play a DVDs for them. He hates getting his hair cut, no idea why as he has never been hurt. After two abortive attempts to get him there we triumphed the third time with him sitting on my knee. What a performance, but no matter now the job is done. He was rewarded with a ride on Santa's train then a burger before heading home. So glad to head home, town was getting very busy. Back to calmer Christmas jobs tomorrow.

DGC's nativity play was superb and (proud gran warning!) L was star of the show as eponymous heroine of Whoops-a-daisy Angel!!
R was a choir member after being a narrator last year.
After a couple of hours of kitchen chores plus laundry processing for Dd1 I'm tired so it's Strictly 2 while eating!
By the time I tidy up and put in the load of towels I brought back, it's tele with no ironing!
Might just manage a little card writing.
Also managed to fire off emails to npower (abandoning them) and to Scottish Gas.
Npower has over £200 of my cash to refund as I switch over.
AIBU to think that I should have it by now as ' it could take up to 30 days' from 2 November?

Well, DGD was very helpful this afternoon, helping me put out all the Christmas ornaments.
Cards written, mostly posted apart from one which needs a letter and one to deliver by hand. A parcel still lurking which needs to go overseas hmm - it's just an extra!
Fed DGD, ate our dinner and needing a wine

Tree still to go, floors to vacuum and/or wash, cakes to marzipan and ice, shall I buy the mince pies and bash them a bit to make them look home-made?

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Dec-15 19:43:14

Yes. Definitely. tchhmm

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 19:45:30

and bake them again so that the mincemeat comes out and burns on the outside (like mine normally do?)
Or just buy the pastry and say 'yes, they are home-made blush

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Dec-15 19:48:11

Do a bit of all of it. That's what I'm doing. I've usually got a freezer full of mince pies and not enough sausage rolls. tchhmm

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Dec-15 19:49:47

(I'm not actually re-baking shop ones though.) tchgrin

Hadn't thought of that.

whitewave Wed 16-Dec-15 20:18:46

Trying to find gluten free puff for the sausage rolls.

Galen Wed 16-Dec-15 20:19:41

Try waitrose

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 20:24:27

I threw my home-made gluten-free pastry out when I made some for DD a couple of years ago as it was so hard even a carving knife wouldn't cut it. I nearly decapitated two pigeons.

Actually, I bought some frozen gf sausage rolls from Tesco for DD whitewave. I've no idea what they are like as I have just remembered they are still in the freezer 20 months later tchblush
They could be very nice (bought fresh/frozen!)

whitewave Wed 16-Dec-15 20:26:57

Have -no luck I have googled it and Morrisons possibly do it but it is in Worthing which means a bit of a treck - might ring them first

Hey enjoy your hol what time are you setting out? Should think you could do it blindfoldedgrin

Ana Wed 16-Dec-15 20:27:32

What were the pigeons doing in your kitchen, rose...? tchconfused

cornergran Wed 16-Dec-15 20:30:42

Today's task was a nice day out with DGS and his parents. Accomplished. tchsmile. If all tasks were as enjoyable no problem!

Bellanonna Wed 16-Dec-15 20:31:31

What a lot of cheating grans you lot are grin
Reminds me of myself transferring some NT chutney into a plain jar with handwritten label for one of my makes-it-all~herself friends last year. The label doesn't go as far as saying home made. I didn't actually fib.
Love the oozing mince pie idea. Must try it

whitewave Wed 16-Dec-15 20:31:56

Might Google Tesco gf frozen sausage rolls

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 20:32:00

I threw it across the garden like a frisbee ana tchgrin

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 20:35:49

I just went to look in the freezer to see what make they are whitewave but I must have thrown them out for the birds when I sorted out the freezer - they weren't Tesco's own make as far as I remember.

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 20:40:32

I can't find them on the Tesco website, but found something on Netmums which suggests making your own with Genius pastry:

whitewave Wed 16-Dec-15 20:41:03

Just googled Tesco - they do masses of stuff but no puff pastry. There are sausage rolls but just the snack sort. I like to make a whole load to freeze and cook as needed. Everyone like sausage rolls!

Pittcity Thu 17-Dec-15 08:25:03

I bought some locally made mince pies from the Co op yesterday. They are oozing, slightly wonky with a few dark bits. I shall take them out of the box and say nothing!
DH has now decided we need espresso capsules for the machine so we can make Irish coffees, so I need to amend the online shop for the umpteenth time and the blessed website is so slow at this time of year.....

rubysong Thu 17-Dec-15 08:30:55

Today I will wrap the parcel for a secret Santa, tidy up the dining room and clear the table the tree will go on.

Katek Thu 17-Dec-15 08:40:22

Wrap wrap wrap wrap wrapping. (Couldn't be bothered with commas)

annsixty Thu 17-Dec-15 08:42:29

Today I am going out for lunch with three neighbours, this is my only meal out over Christmas sad and then I will get the bits and bobs of decs out. Still haven't tackled spare room. I think I will have to make a huge sacrifice and move DH in with me so DD can have his room. It is just as big a challenge to him as it is to me grin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 17-Dec-15 08:44:52

I don't know! I can't decide! >>wrings hands with Xmas anxiety<<

It's between:

Getting tree in from shed and decorating it
Putting up room decs.
Making some more mince pies
Taking an changed-my-mind item back to M and S so they can still sell it for Xmas.

Oh! and writing and posting cards (only do a few)

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 17-Dec-15 08:45:40

I bet Marks and Sparks wins. It always does. It seems to be my natural home at this time of the year. tchconfused
