I'm sat here with a cuppa and mince-pie, the rain is belting down outside. and I got to thinking about you lovely people, wondering where you all live. (I,ve finished the chores for today)
Some of you ladies will know each other very well, however I'm fairly new to Gransnet, so if you have two minutes talk to me from wherever you are. I live in a small village near Thirsk in North Yorkshire with my DH and Molly our Cairn Terrier. Our Daughters and GC are near bye in York. Originally from Alnwick but been here for 15 years and love the folks and the area.

Message for NanKate.
Many many years ago I was trying to get a user name accepted for another social site, kept getting the message that it wasnt suitable. In exasperation I looked at the holiday brochure I had open next to my computer, noticed the Kupari Resort and typed it in. Plus I was born in 45 so thats it.
I have really enjoyed reading every reply, lots of us have moved around the country over the years.

Born in Ayrshire in 1940. Now in Cheshire by way of: Linlithgow, St Andrews (Uni), Dundee, Kenya, Notts, Leics, Norfolk. That's about it and quite enough as far as I'm concerned. Sons and families in Oxon and Berks.

I am a Geordie born and bred Kupari45. I live on the North East coast. DH and I spend a lot of time in and around Alnwick which is less than an hour away from us. Also love Seahouses, Berwick etc. all the places we visit regularly with our caravan. My DD went to university in York and we spent a lot of time there during those years. My DD, sister and I often pop to York on the train (again only an hour away). Welcome to GN smile

Thanks Kupari45 for the explanation. I hope you had a good 79th this year, it's mine next year. Obviously our dads were all returning from the war, hence US. grin

Hi Kupari45. Born in Derby, moved to South East London, joined the Wrens, married a matelot, moved up and down the country from Cornwall to Hampshire. Have lived in North Hampshire for nearly 30 years. One of my DDs (and GS) lives with us the other one lives a few miles from where I grew up in SE London. Small world.

NanKate, your maths is a bit out, by my reckoning, Kupari was 70 this year, either that, or I`m a lot older than I thought I was, born in 1943!

Born in Aberdeen, brought up in Dundee, taught in Edinburgh where I met DH, had two kids, moved to Bahrain, then Hong Kong, Oman and Dubai. Returned to UK in 1996, taught in Bucks and am now happily retired and living in rural splendour. Love it!

I was born in Derby, lived in North Wales, back to Derbyshire, Leicester, Coventry, Shrewsbury, Melton Mowbray, Melbourne (the Australian one), Leicestershire, Loughborough and now a village just outside. And, I'm not moving ever again!

Alima Tue 08-Dec-15 08:17:00

kittylester did you stay in Derby for very long?

POGS Tue 08-Dec-15 09:14:19

Jusnoneed

I was born just outside of Glastonbury too. Dad was originally from Potterne Wiltshire so I am a Somerset/Wiltshire girl

You don't know this but I made the path running down Tor Hill when I piddled at the top and it ran ALL the way down to the bottom, according to my dad when I was about 5 years old grin

We moved to Bath but moved on to Leicester when I was 15. I now live on the Leicester/Warks border. Back to Somerset in a flash if I could though all my family are there or Devon.

Hi, Alima, I was born in 1949, in The Nightingale MH. At that time my parents lived with my paternal gps in the New Inn (on King St, I think) then we moved to North Wales when I was about 1. We moved back when I was about 4 to live in Repton and then moved to Littleover which we left when I was 20. I went to John Port in Etwall. What about you?

Alima Tue 08-Dec-15 09:48:29

I was born in '53 in a nursing home there, I think Queen Mary's. We lived in Vicarage Avenue off Burton Road until I was 4 and then moved to The Blue Bell Inn in Kirk Langley till '63 when we moved to SE London. My sister and I went to Friar Gate School now sadly closed. My brother lived in Littleover for many years and now lives just off Kedleston Road, handy for the golf club! Mum and Dad had friends in Etwall but I cannot remember their names. Good to meet you kittylester.

Nice to meet you too! My daughter lives just off Ashbourne Road but is moving to just off Kedleston Road to be in the catchment area for Woodlands School. She works at a school in Spondon as Head of Inclusion.

I'm new to GN and enjoy reading the postings.

We tend to do things the opposite way round, and not long ago moved from the quiet Devon coast to busy NE London so we could grow old making the most of city life. Can't wait to get my free bus and tube pass. We are lucky enough to have Epping Forest on our doorstep where our two dogs get a good run too.

Eloethan - I think we must be close to your location?

henetha Tue 08-Dec-15 11:58:11

Born in Devon, still in Devon. Plymouth, then Torquay, now near Dartmoor. Devon's lovely.

EllenT Tue 08-Dec-15 12:10:28

Born and brought up a Lancashire lass (St Anne's), then Cardiff, South-east London, Leicestershire, Tynemouth and now coastal East Lothian. As soon as DH has joined me in retirement we're moving back south(ish) to Northumberland - perhaps Alnwick - or North Yorks. Can't wait!
