I'm sat here with a cuppa and mince-pie, the rain is belting down outside. and I got to thinking about you lovely people, wondering where you all live. (I,ve finished the chores for today)
Some of you ladies will know each other very well, however I'm fairly new to Gransnet, so if you have two minutes talk to me from wherever you are. I live in a small village near Thirsk in North Yorkshire with my DH and Molly our Cairn Terrier. Our Daughters and GC are near bye in York. Originally from Alnwick but been here for 15 years and love the folks and the area.

Thank you one and all for your replies. I've really enjoyed reading them all.
It was like opening your birthday cards at breakfast time.! Now, when I see your posts I can imagine where you are.
I'm off to the local garden centre now,and DH is busy unplugging the Zoe.
Hope you all have a happy weekend.

Ginny 42- so glad you love 'my' Jura- not so well known touristically speaking and few 'expats' around. But if you do visit again. get in touch as it would be lovely to meet for lunch or a walk- perhaps show you some bits you don't know. We are just on the Swiss side, near Pontarlier.

We do B&B too- a separate wing with 2 double beds and a super new bathroom, own kitchen if desired, and own wood-clad library/lounge with open fireplace and garden... at very good rates.

I am surprised how many of us were originally from East London. I lived in Ilford for 20 years, then Wanstead and Brentwood before moving to Colchester.

Hi I was brought up in Bath and then lived in Box and Neston. We moved to Surrey for my husband's work.
Another work move has brought us to Southampton.
I have 2 sons and 2 grandsons in Camberley and a son who now lives in Corsham very close to where we once lived in Neston. Looking forward to a granddaughter due end of January in Corsham.

I'm originally from Norfolk, where my Mum and sister still live. I went to college in Ealing, then moved to Aylesbury.
Been in Milton Keynes (MK) since 1979 and both DDs still live here. A good place to be, and still growing! ( the 'city', not me!)

Stepney, east London born and bred. Then Wanstead, then Perth in Australia, now back to a hamlet near Good Easter, Essex but working back in Stepney where i can see the room in which i was born from my office window. Ending where i started!

tinaf1 Sun 06-Dec-15 18:05:27

Lellyb what part of Stepney I went to Raines Foundation School & now you're back working in the area do you think it has changed ie.for the better

Lellyb Sun 06-Dec-15 18:17:56

So did i! 1964-1969. You tinaf1?

No, not for the better. When i have a break in work i often have a walk around the streets remembering where i roamed as a kid and smiling at the memories. We used to go Out first thing in the morning (before the streets were aired as my old mum used to say), and back in time for tea (or dinner as we say now as we're posh). Proper street rakers back then.

Hi - I was born and lived in Liverpool for the first 25 years of my life and have moved several times since then because of my late husband's job and also since he died. Spent 13 years living on Anglesey North Wales until he died and my daughter and I then moved down to Dover, Kent (she got a job in the Home Office there) and stayed there for 16 years. Recently moved to Telford Shropshire with daughter and my three grandchildren after daughter got a promotion here. My son is in the USA with his wife and two kiddies. Would love to meet up with anyone else in the Telford area!

I live in Sherborne, Dorset - been here for 36yrs. But I'm a Somerset girl by birth, born in a small village near Glastonbury, later moved to Glastonbury itself, and my one wish is to move back to the area. My OH is from here and is a real stick in the mud so I know he won't be going anywhere else, but I've already told him that if he pops off first I'm selling up and going home lol.

NanKate Sun 06-Dec-15 22:22:53

I was born in the heart of Birmingham. I have lived in the Thames Valley for about 38 years. We have the river running through the town. There are more coffee shops than you can shake a stick at and I love it. smile

By the way welcome Kupari45. Can I ask how you chose your Gransnet name ?

Nana3 Sun 06-Dec-15 23:38:55

I'm in Lancashire and yes it does feel like it's always raining especially the last few weeks. Serious floods here in the NW, we're not affected but feel for those who are.

Hi Kupari! I've been on GN some time but don't post that much. I live in the NE of Scotland. I was born and raised in Kent but have moved a lot over the years with my dh. Bedfordshire, Caithness, Indonesia and Nigeria are some of the places we've lived.

I've a son in America, with a 6yo ds & a 2yo dd, a son in London with a 15mth old boy, a newly-wed daughter in Perthshire and our younger dd is in second year at a Scottish university.
