Oh my goodness, I just worked out that I've know my oldest friend for 59 years! And apart from marrying and having children (and that 15 years apart) we have nothing whatsoever in common, she's indoorsy, brilliant cook and seamstress, while I'm more than capable of burning water and can't sew for toffee - although I can paint and draw (she can't!). I've several other friends who I've been best mates with nearly as long, and again we have little in common. Perhaps that's the key?
